Wife's racist tweets about Harris spur official to resign

MENLO PARK, CALIF.

A school board president in the San Francisco Bay Area has resigned after his wife's racist comments about Vice President-elect Kamala Harris raised an outcry.

Jon Venverloh announced Sunday that he was stepping down from his position with the Las Lomitas Elementary School District in Menlo Park.

His wife, Mehridith Philips Venverloh, tweeted Sunday in response to comments about Harris's qualifications that “all she needs to be qualified is a black (crude term for female genitalia)! No brain needed!"

She also posted several other crude remarks, prompting dozens of parents to demand her husband's resignation.

In announcing his resignation, Venverloh said he didn't agree with his wife's “reprehensible views" but that given her posts, “I know that my continued service would be a distraction from the work that needs to be done."

I guess its "possible" he doesn't share his wifes thoughts and feelings but...... man, he's had NO warnings in their married life that she thought like that? None? I find that hard to believe myself. Maybe a "change in medication" gave her the license to say these things but..... he had no clue? Ever? My thoughts are that he shares his wife thoughts and is just a bit more circumspect in his social media postings.

He husband had always been more vocal about his views, but it turns out, she's even nuttier than him, and more mean and aggressive about it. Apparently, the Republican Party is entitled to the White House, and seeing that slip away has further loosened their grip on any sense of circumspection, civility or common decency.

But Menlo Park?! Pick your audience.

I’m sure she is too. Obama’s election—and his obvious intelligence and charisma—burst the bubble that some white people had been living in, always believing that they were superior to any black person, no matter how poor their education or the black person’s superior intellect and education. And to cap it off, he had a beautiful black wife with the same superior intellect and education. The fact that a black man had the audacity to run for president and win, and now we have not only another black person as Vice President but a woman must be making a lot of white people jealous.

Racism is tearing this country apart. It lies at the root of much that is wrong in the country. And it’s so frustrating because it seems to be getting worse, not better. Where does this stop, and how do we stop it?

Wed Nov 11, 2020, 02:23 AM

I've been around racism my whole life.
I'm a blue collar white guy from Chicago. I was a child in the 60s, and turned 18 late 70s (for historical reference).

I had one racist parent, and one non-racist parent. To this day I don't know how they got along.
They argued over this issue a lot. I guess it was because of all that went on racially in those days.
We lived only blocks from the riots in Chicago after MLK Jr's murder. There were National Guard troops
patrolling our neighborhood. There were quite a few arguments between the parents at that point.

I mention all if this background to point out that here I am, 50+ years later, and nothing's gotten better.
However, 20-30-40 years ago, aside from one crew of bumbling neo-nazis here in Chicago (spoofed in The Blues Brothers),
there was no big, open, vocal "white power" movement up here. Things appeared to be getting better. I guess I was fooled. Now, many people my age are turning out to be racist as Hell. I hate it.

I just don't understand how it's getting worse. Anyway you look at it, progress was being made in race relations, although much too slowly. Why, and how, did that progress stop?

Many without a damn thing to be angry and resentful about. No, sweetie, your words aren't due to medication or disappointment. In times like this, when your social defenses are down, they're a clear window into your soul. As Jesus would say.....

Matthew 12:34 - You brood of vipers! How can you speak good things, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

Luke 6:45 - A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

I love using the Bible on them. It drives them nuts. For few of them now this passage.....

Paleotn 12 verse 25 - Beware the liberal agnostic with 20+ years of evangelical training and upbringing. For he shall club you with your own sacred scriptures, making you look like a total ass.
