Brandon Bernard executed after Supreme Court denies request for a delay
Source: CNN
(CNN)Brandon Bernard was executed by the federal government on Thursday at the Federal Correctional Center in Terre Haute, Indiana, according to a pool report.
Bernard, 40, was one of five gang members convicted in Texas of killing Stacie and Todd Bagley -- who were youth ministers -- in 1999. The gunman, Christopher Vialva, was executed in September, while the other co-defendants were given lesser sentences.
Bernard was pronounced dead at 9:27 p.m. He was the youngest person in the United States to receive a death sentence in nearly 70 years for a crime committed when he was an adolescent.
Bernard said he had been waiting for his chance to apologize to the family of the Bagleys and his own family for the pain he caused.

Reminds me of Roman emperor Commodus, who fought gladiators in the Coliseum. His opponents swords were blunt.

(2,690 posts)Commodus dispatched gladiators by the dozen, some even while he was blindfolded. He devised ways of fighting that were considered genius by all who knelt before him. He beat the Allemanni single-handed, with just a sling and a few rocks, saving the Empire from certain destruction. Told historian Juvenus Stultus that the thing he liked most about being emperor was that he could walk into the baths where the Vestal Virgins were bathing and inspect their virginity, saying "when you're emperor, they let you do that!"
All the above verified on Nuntii Vulpes, "Appensus et Pulchra".
We can always trust Stultus and Vulpes, especially the latter's "Novus ad Noctus".

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. The Trump administration on Thursday carried out its ninth federal execution of the year and the first during a presidential lame-duck period in 130 years, putting to death a Texas street-gang member for his role in the slayings of a religious couple from Iowa more than two decades ago.
Four more federal executions, including one Friday, are planned in the weeks before President-elect Joe Bidens inauguration.
The case of Brandan Bernard, who received a lethal injection of phenobarbital inside a death chamber at a U.S. prison in Terre Haute, Indiana, was a rare execution of a person who was in his teens when his crime was committed.
Several high-profile figures, including reality TV star Kim Kardashian West, had appealed to President Donald Trump to commute Bernards sentence to life in prison.

the gunman turned to Bernard and told him to light the car and help destroy the evidence.
They then placed their bodies in the trunk of their car and torched it.
"Brandon believed both were dead, though Stacie was not."
