Attorney General Barr breaks with Trump, says SolarWinds hack 'certainly appears to be the Russians'

Source: CNBC

WASHINGTON — Outgoing Attorney General William Barr said Monday that the massive SolarWinds hack of U.S. government agencies "certainly appears to be" the work of Russia, contradicting President Donald Trump.

By singling out Russia as the likely perpetrator of the cyberattack, Barr sided with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the rest of the national security establishment but contradicted the president.

Barr made the remarks during an impromptu press conference, just two days before he is scheduled to leave his job.

After several days of silence about the sweeping breach of government and private-sector networks, Trump downplayed the seriousness of the attack in a pair of tweets over the weekend. He suggested without any evidence that China, and not Russia, might be to blame.

There must be a reason.
They know his goose is cooked and they don't want to be a side dish, I guess.

Figure they better start acting rationally so if Trump goes completely off the deep end, they can show they weren’t in cahoots with him.

Even if they don’t actually do anything, Republicans could convince Trump that he is risking removal for inability to handle the job (which is already clear). He needs to be sent to Mar-a-Lago and just play golf until January 20.

Wait until Trump is actually out of office. That's when the logjam will really break.
