No. 1 Alabama and No. 3 Ohio State are scheduled to play in the College Football Playoff championship game on Jan. 11 at Hard Rock Stadium.
There is a possibility, however, that the game could be postponed until Jan. 18. AL.com reported the game could be pushed back to Jan. 18 because of player availability concerns with Ohio State.

Yahoo Sports Pete Thamel reported that, as of now, Ohio State is planning on playing the game Monday. Alabama, Ohio State and the SEC reportedly are all pushing for the game to be played, but Big Ten officials reportedly have raised concerned about the Buckeyes participating under the circumstances.
A total of 23 Ohio State players missed the Michigan State game on Dec. 5. The Buckeyes did not play against Michigan the following week. Head coach Ryan Day also tested positive for COVID-19 during the regular season.
It's been an ongoing roster battle for Ohio State this season in a state that ranks sixth in the United States in confirmed cases. AL.com reported Ohio State has informed key parties involved it could be without a position group due to COVID-19 testing and related protocols.

I know a football game is small potatoes compared to this pandemic but to me at least
they have been a diversion and at the same time gave me a little feeling of "the normal"
again.

(2,028 posts)Taking the kind of risks we are taking now to play various sportsball games is idiotic. We are not having concerts or theater. We should not have sportsball either. It's ludicrous to hear, week after week, about this team or that going down with infections. It's ludicrous to have this kind of travel and close contact between teams and staffs. The one good thing that could have come of this pandemic is breaking the back of college sports, and restoring universities' focus on education rather than being minor leagues for a number of sports.

(17,095 posts)I know that so many young people have high hopes for a sports career, but the potential after-effects of Covid-19 doesn't make it worth it. I wouldn't want my kids playing team sports.
Are sports movies any help for diversion? Before I stopped shopping, I saw DVDs of recent World Series games at Dollar Tree.
I am cleaning my vacuum cleaner and a fan today. My diversions. Take something apart and put it back together :/

(2,028 posts)We likely have already had one collapse and death from heart inflammation post-COVID. Sports are not worth dying for. These young folks could have promising careers in and out of sports, but they have to survive and be healthy for that to happen. Colleges and pro-teams are frankly abusive in continuing seasons. Yes, they want to make money, players and staff want to make money, and college hopefuls would like to be able to land a lucrative team spot someday. But it's literally playing Russian Roulette when the exposure is so great, and there are so many post-COVID health issues that can range from life altering to disabling to deadly.

The high school teams are going full-steam ahead too.
I'm not a fan of sports, but my husband was always surprised how much I knew about individuals who played sports. I guess the humanity was more interesting to me.

(151 posts)Lots of teams have played without starters bc of COVID concerns this season. OSU is already on kinda thin ice because of the way they GOT to the playoffs, but their QB took a HARD hit in the semifinals and many observers have noted that their backup may not be up to snuff, so they're using COVID as an excuse to buy more time for their starter to heal so he can play in the title game AND give them time to plan for Alabama.

Any ? of if Ohio State deserved to be in the playoffs were more than answered by their last game.
This was a B.S, rumor and then posted by Nick Saban's daughter who has now apologized for it
and deleted it too.
