Wisconsin reports 128 COVID-19 deaths Saturday - an all-time high for a single day

Wisconsin reported an all-time high number of deaths due to COVID-19 reported in a single day Saturday — 128.

The previous record for daily deaths was set Dec. 22, when 120 people died.

Saturday's spike in deaths led to an increase in the seven-day average of daily deaths — from 29 on Friday to 42. The highest weekly average for deaths came in December, when the average hit 61.

COVID-19 deaths are still disproportionately affecting older people. Even though a majority of COVID-19 cases are among younger people, nearly 80% of all those who have died in Wisconsin are 70 or older, according to the state Department of Health Services. Those 70 and older make up only 10% of all confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state.

New cases reported: 1,937

If they don't figure out how to stop those idiots in power, we can always just divide up the land between Minnesota and Illinois. The Wisconsin government has failed that state completely, and the good people there need to put a stop to this mismanagement. Sadly, I am not holding my breath.

Wisconsin is now #15 lowest in daily new cases per capita, 7 day moving average (with 14 states lower and 35 higher).

This is down 63% from the Nov 20 peak.

Unfortunately its up from Dec 25 as of January 16, but trending back down since Jan 10.

Following the drop in new cases, the 7 day moving average of new deaths is down 28% from its December 22 peak. (But it is on a nearly 2 week uptrend since a Jan 4 local low point)

Currently Wisconsin is #28 lowest daily new deaths per capita 7 day moving average (27 states are lower, 22 are higher). So it's a bit worse than the median state in this metric.
