Florida Lawmakers Object to Renaming Palm Beach International Airport After Donald Trump
Source: People Magazine
On Saturday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that several Florida lawmakers were opposed to renaming the Palm Beach County airport after Trump, who would often travel through to visit his Mar-a-Lago estate.
"When people hear [Palm Beach], they envision our beaches, our equestrian sports, and in some cases our agricultural contributions," County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay told the outlet. "It is a lifestyle."
McKinlay added that "Trump International" would be "better-suited for his golf courses, not our airport."

(5,124 posts)It may even get to the point of Desantis rejecting him. trump is bad for business for FL. As they said in the article, when people think FL, they think beaches, family fun, etc. If trump living there full time becomes a magnet for his MAGA lunatics, he's going to find that FL won't stand for it if it means that - tourists no longer want to come to FL.

It would be a shame to ruin it by making it Trump's namesake.
It is very close to Mar-a-Lago.
If you want a laugh, click this search link and just read the headlines. It's all bad for Trump.

Right off the top of my head, there's Pee Wee Herman International, or Tom Petty. Everybody in Florida loves Tom Petty! If they want to stick with conservative politicians, they could do better with David Duke Intl.

(15,333 posts)The northwest part of MIA might as well have been Mos Eisley Spaceport for all the sketchy goings-on
that happened there. A perfect place to be renamed The Donald J. Trump Maintenace and Storage Area:
https://www.nytimes.com/1983/05/09/us/storing-area-of-miami-airport-is-a-thieves-shopping-center.html
To thieves, this northwest corner, with its millions of dollars in aircraft and parts, has become a gold mine. Since November more than a half-million dollars worth of instruments and avionics equipment have been reported stolen from airliners parked here. The jets, mostly DC-8's and Boeing 727's, are owned by cargo carriers and leasing and management companies. Most stand idle day in and day out...
...''At what point do you know when someone is working on an airplane to fix it or working on an airplane to steal?'' said Lieut. Ned Valois of Metro-Dade, who is heading the investigation. He said the companies have been cooperating with his office in supplying leads, but no arrests have been made.
Neither the police nor aviation department patrols go into the leaseholders' area or the hangars, said Eddie Hammond, director of security for the aviation department. He said that in many cases ''we don't even know who the owner is'' or who is authorized to be around the aircraft....
Lots of photos and vivid descriptions of the many, many beater aircraft to be found there back in the day:

(51,574 posts)Next-door neighbors of Mar-a-Lago, President Trumps private club in Palm Beach, Fla., that he has called his Winter White House, have a message for the outgoing commander in chief: We dont want you to be our neighbor. That message was formally conveyed Tuesday morning in a demand letter delivered to the town of Palm Beach and also addressed to the U.S. Secret Service asserting that Trump lost his legal right to live at Mar-a-Lago because of an agreement he signed in the early 1990s when he converted the storied estate from his private residence to a private club. The legal maneuver could, at long last, force Palm Beach to publicly address whether Trump can make Mar-a-Lago his legal residence and home, as he has been expected to do when he becomes an ex-president after the swearing-in of Joe Biden on Jan. 20.
The contretemps sets up a potentially awkward scenario, unique in recent history, in which a former Oval Office occupant would find himself having to officially defend his choice of a place to live during his post-presidency. It also could create a legal headache for Trump because he changed his official domicile to Mar-a-Lago, leaving behind Manhattan, where he lived before being elected president and before his fame as a brash, self-promoting developer. (Trump originally tried to register to vote in Florida using the White House in Washington as his address, which is not allowed under Florida law. He later changed the registration to the Mar-a-Lago address.)
In the demand letter, obtained by The Washington Post, a lawyer for the Mar-a-Lago neighbors says the town should notify Trump that he cannot use Mar-a-Lago as his residence. Making that notification would avoid an embarrassing situation if the outgoing president moves to the club and later has to be ordered to leave, according to the letter sent on behalf of the neighbors, the DeMoss family, which runs an international missionary foundation.
The Mar-a-Lago neighbors would be okay with Trumps finding a new place to bunk. Their letter, written by West Palm Beach attorney Reginald Stambaugh, includes a zinger that harks to the vibe of the old-money enclave on Floridas east coast: Palm Beach has many lovely estates for sale, and we are confident President Trump will find one which meets his needs.
