Neera Tanden committee vote delayed as alternatives to lead White House budget office surface

Source: Washington Post

Two Senate committees on Wednesday delayed votes on President Biden’s nominee to lead the Office of Management and Budget, as the White House continued to struggle to find the votes to secure her passage through the Senate.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and the Senate Budget Committee abruptly postponed votes on Neera Tanden scheduled for Wednesday.

Tanden’s nomination has appeared increasingly in jeopardy over the past week as Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.) and a number of moderate Republican senators announced that they would not vote for her, probably dooming her selection in an evenly divided Senate.

“Members need more time to consider the nomination, so we’re continuing to work with them to find the best path forward,” said an aide to the Homeland Security Committee. Of particular concern on that panel is Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), who has not indicated how she would vote on Tanden’s nomination.

1. So, this is going to be the first surrender to our enemies?

I though we were in this to win.

5. Again, it seems to me that the thing to do is tell them

"Cool. Vote against my picks, but you OWN these votes, and you get to deal with the blowback. When people are call in, incandescent with rage, we will refer them to you. Also, don't count on us to back you in the primary, we will be hands off."

2. Neera should become Pres. Biden's floating "temporary" appointment. As Cabinet and sub-cabinet

positions open, as they always do, she should be appointed to serve until a person is confirmed by the Senate. Keep her face in front of the damn QOP senators for as long as she is willing.

4. Just Wait

until all other cabinet positions are confirmed, then just APPOINT Tanden.

Fuck Manchin & the Repubs. Donnie did it.

She won't be making any policy changes like Wolf did. It could take forever to get to the SCOTUS. Things could change in the meantime.

6. The only problem Manchin has with Neera Tanden is she doesn't have a penis.

7. Tanden called out Manchin's daughter for that epipen price gouging.

Her name is Bresch, I think. She was the CEO of that big pharma co & she made $19m for making them many times richer. She also lied about her college degree.

8. I imagine it could've been something like this,

"DAAADDDDDDYYY! WAAAAAAHHH! That Tanden woman was mean to me for stuffing my pockets with more $MILLIONS$ at the expense of those allergic people!" Do something, DADDY!

Amazing coincidence that Manchin has a problem with mean tweets only with the qualified woman who just happened to direct them at his price-gouging, money grubbing daughter.

I hope Biden just appoints her.

14. It doesn't appear that she is eligible.

In order to serve in an acting Senate-confirmed position, you have to have been confirmed by the Senate for some other position.

13. Tanden deserves a chance to undo decades of Trickle Down.

If the GOP say they got hurt feelings, too bad. She told the truth about them and who got the mon-nay.
