Secret Service tried to cover up incident involving Hunter Biden's gun - report

The US Secret Service sought to cover up a bizarre incident in which a gun belonging to to Hunter Biden was dumped in a trash can behind a grocery store then found to be missing, the website Politico reported on Thursday.
Delaware police were concerned the gun, a .38 revolver, could be found and used in a crime, the website said, adding that it was eventually found by a man rummaging the trash for recycling. The Secret Service reportedly approached the store where the gun was purchased, seeking to obtain all records of the transaction. The owner reportedly declined.

Politico said it had obtained copies of records relating to Hunter Bidens purchase of the gun, on 12 October 2018. It said he answered no to a question about unlawful use or addiction to marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance.
Five years earlier, the website said, he had been discharged from the US navy reserve after testing positive for cocaine, and he and family members have spoken about his history of drug use.
Lying on the form is a felony, though prosecutions for it are exceedingly rare.

helo I look for unconfirmed hit pieces on hunter biden by scrolling through glenn becks conspiracy theory website should I add that to the story

@MallaPip
Gee, its such a mystery - the Secret Service would not have any involvement at the time, they have no record of it, & only Glenn Becks site has spoken to it, but, hey, lets include in our reporting

(5,586 posts)For lying on the background check form (if what the article says about the form is true).
Expanding these Background checks are a major part of the Dem gun safety legislation. Can we still be taken seriously on this subject if we let it slide because hes a Biden?

(1,988 posts)The idea that Hunter lied on the federal form is what they have dreamed up. FIVE YEARS before he bought the gun, he was discharged from the reserves for a positive cocaine test. Five years prior.
What they are doing is this:
Start with: "Hey, this guy bought a gun and has also in the past claimed to have had drug addiction problems..... "
Pivot to an alleged incident that may be in Hunter's upcoming book..
Then jump to the illogical conclusion that "The Secret Service" interfered into a non-existent investigation pertaining to the federal form Biden would have filled out when he purchased the gun because ....... he wasn't prosecuted for "lying on the form" based upon the idea that he has "had drug addiction issues in the past". Because the Delaware State Police, upon discovering that Hunter Biden owns a firearm, should have forwarded that information to the DOJ(Trump's DOJ) and Biden should have been prosecuted for "lying" in October of 2018 because of a positive cocaine test in 2013.
See what they are doing?

(32,626 posts)The 'other side' makes their ammo. They need no help. But they get it, no matter how many times they pull the same old crap, people fall for it. With no evidence. It's why this country is where it is.

These wingers have come up with more believable stories. And the Hunter Biden vein for their bullshit played out months ago. Haven't they heard? There's no there. Biden won the election months ago.

(16,389 posts)Considering what a gross bunch of garbage people Chump's 3 oldest kids are, isn't it ironic how much the right likes to pick on Biden's oldest (surviving) son?
I guess it says something about Joe's record that Hunter is the only thing they can find to use against him. And even where Hunter is concerned, all they can manage to do is make up lies that are so riddled with holes that the rwnj's are the only ones who believe them. Pathetic.
It must be hard for Hannity and his ilk to have a Democratic president with historically high approval ratings doing a bang-up job. Sucks to be them these days.

much more important matters. I just love the timing and content. Not to mention that the Guardian appears to have been Dan Rathered.
************
Edit: I read the politico story and while it reads like journalism I just don't see it being quite what they claim it is. There are a lot of assertions about different actions taken by Hunter and Hallie, along with the owners of the grocery and gun-store. I don't see references to interviews or other statements of attribution that I would expect in such a situation.
It could have gone down as described or in a form like it, I suppose. It's just that the timing of the article's release seems rather related to the current debate on gun control. If I read it correctly this whole thing happened in 2018 and was completed in that time.
So why do the Guardian and Politico publish it now as if it was last week? Where are the independent witnesses with cell phones blazing video, and blog posts asserting they were there? Compare this coverage or any coverage of any part to how "pizza gate" was covered.

(24,284 posts)a licensed federal firearms dealer refused to cooperate with a Secret Service investigation? An investigation that would actually be conducted by ATF agents?

(111,255 posts)Maybe a different Hunter Biden? I have an unusual name and there are people with my name all over the country.
Did he buy it because he was contemplating suicide? I see this a lot in people who struggle against addictions, they've all got a plan and some of them have the means. It would be consistent with throwing the gun away in a more lucid moment.
Whatever the story, he gets due process like everybody else.
pnwmom
(108,977 posts)So maybe the agents who showed up at the gun shop were there unofficially, on behalf of themselves and Trump, and that's why there were no records.
The ATF found nothing of concern because they were doing their jobs, which isn't to do Trump's bidding.
