We can do this': Biden unveils pro-vaccine TV ads, network of grass-roots leaders to push shots

Source: Washington Post

The Biden administration on Thursday unveiled its first television advertisements to encourage Americans to get vaccinated against the coronavirus, part of a series of pro-vaccine messages as the White House pushes to achieve the president’s goal of returning the country to some normalcy by July 4th.

The “We Can Do This” campaign will air across cable and broadcast stations nationwide and include targeted multimillion-dollar ad buys for Black and Spanish-language media.
In a virtual kickoff event Thursday morning, Vice President Harris and Surgeon General Vivek H. Murthy introduced a grass-roots network of local leaders and prominent figures billed as the “Covid-19 Community Corps,” who are set to encourage shots, drawing on research that trusted voices are best able to win over vaccine-hesitant Americans.

Shouldn't they be offering this medication to people at the time they go in for the MRI? CTyankee Apr 2021 #7
Some may, but the paperwork would probably slow them down. Lars39 Apr 2021 #8

Basically shaming them. Scared of a silly little needle poke. Pathetic!

Some people have a real struggle with this. I’m one of them.

Trying to force people to feel “weak” because they have a hard time facing a particular trigger is not the answer. I’m sorry if you don’t understand this type of fear, and I’m glad you don’t experience it. But calling it pathetic really shows a lack of understanding. Encouraging is one thing; shaming something entirely another.

We are all different.

it. So I'm with you but believe me when I say the Pfizer shot was nothing. I can't speak for any other types of Covid vaccine. I didn't even have a sore arm. In my long life, I have never had a shot like this.

I can only tell you my experience so YMMV. It was the easiest shot I ever had in my long life.

I hope this helps you.

But the fear that many of us have, myself at least, goes way deeper than just the needle prick. I’ve had nightmares over the thought of having to get the shot. I’ve fainted in the past. It’s difficult, embarrassing, and cannot be controlled.

And if a booster is required, I’ll be living in terror during that timeframe. It is NOT a rational thing, of course, but is a phobia. It’s like it’s hanging over my head every second. Hearing about it all the time in the news doesn’t help either although I certainly understand that it’s important that it be discussed.

It’s hard for those who don’t experience it to understand because there is no logic to it. Perhaps like the irrational fear some have of clowns, etc.

Science will one day catch up. There are several projects in the works for vaccine delivery via micro needle patches, and I’ll be singing and dancing if that ever becomes a reality. One doctor at the University of Pittsburgh decided to work on the project after witnessing his children’s stress over getting vaccinations.

I have an MRI coming up and I'm contemplating taking my Elavil pill (which I usually take at bedtime and need for nerve pain) because I don't know how I will react to that sense of enclosure.

Some people take xanax, though. I get the prescription from the doctor prescribing the MRI, because I'm claustrophobic, but it also keeps my BP down, too.

It takes about a half hour to kick in good, which is time they don't want to schedule.
Also, there's the issue of driving...someone who drove themselves cannot take Valium or Xanax and drive themselves home.
