Biden will push through infrastructure plan if no Republican support -energy secretary says
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden would be willing to push through his $2 trillion infrastructure plan without the support of Republican lawmakers if he cannot reach a bipartisan deal, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said on Sunday.
Granholm said Biden would prefer that his plan have Republican backing but, if that does not work, he would likely support using a procedural strategy called reconciliation to allow Democrats to pass it in the Senate.
"As he has said, he was sent to the presidency to do a job for America. And if the vast majority of Americans, Democrats and Republicans, across the country support spending on our country and not allowing us to lose the race globally, then he's going to do that," Granholm said on CNN's "State of the Union."
Most Americans currently support the Democratic president's plan, said Granholm, one of several senior Biden administration officials who promoted the proposal on television news shows on Sunday.

Will be passed by a second budget reconciliation. Money would be available from October.

(6,355 posts)That guy never let a bill move through the Senate without hanging some WV pork on it....and any bill he hung pork on...he supported. None of this shit like today when a R senator hangs some pork on the bill and then f'ing votes against it !!! But the bill still passes and his state gets the jobs.
It's like I68...no reason for it other than to drive to Morgantown WV from DC. Doesn't matter when ya drive it, it's you and 3 other cars...but at 7mil per mile...Byrd was on it like a dog on a bone. lol

(17,912 posts)Lots of funding in the bill for WV. Joe is being well taken care of so when it comes to a vote he'll fall in line. If there's anyone in DC who understands realpolitik, it's Joe Biden. That's how we get things done.

(13,594 posts)That's precisely the proper message. All of these proposals, and even gun control and SB1, have enormous support by both democratic and republican voters. It's the republicans in congress that are out of step not just with the country at large but even with their own republican constituents whom they purportedly represent.
Egads, now they're even winding up the culture war wurlitzer for, of all things, baseball and coca cola! What kind of strategy is this? "Vote for me! I crushed coca cola! I crushed baseball!! I crushed ther well-paying job you would have had!!111!! I even crushed your right to vote!!!1111!!!"

Somebody needs to point out to the billionaires that their private jets aren't going anywhere unless fuel gets to them via tanker truck crossing the bridges that are desperately in need of repair or replacement.
