After new law, McConnell warns CEOs: 'Stay out of politics'

Source: ABC News

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell says it's a “big lie” to call the new voting law in Georgia racist and he warned big business to “stay out of politics" after major corporations and even Major League Baseball distanced themselves from the state amid vast public pressure.

McConnell particularly slammed President Joe Biden's criticism that the Georgia bill was restrictive and a return to Jim Crow-era restrictions in the Southern states aimed limiting ballot access for Black Americans.

“It’s simply not true,” McConnell told reporters Monday.

The choice by the GOP leader to dive into voting politics lends heft to efforts nationwide to install strict new voting laws after Donald Trump's false claims of fraud that cost him the election to Biden. The new laws are aimed at scaling back early voting and other options that became wildly popular during the pandemic.

Yet Moscow Mitch was all-in for secret corporate money donations under Citizens United.

29. Mitch McConnell Reminded of Citizens United Backing After Warning to CEOs

Once again, you just cannot trust Moscow Mitch.

Former Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill (D) also said it was "funny" that McConnell opposed corporations being involved in politics after backing a Supreme Court ruling that allowed them to spend unlimited funds on elections.

"He desperately wants corporations to be people (see Citizens United) with First Amendment rights when it comes to campaign cash... just not for any other type of speech," she tweeted.

Speaking at a roundtable event in 2011, McConnell said the Citizens United ruling "leveled the playing field" between newspaper owners and other corporations that wished to have a say in politics.

"All Citizens United basically did was to level the playing field for corporate America, and for union America, and say you like a media company can... independently express your views about anything in this country," he said at the time. "Why shouldn't everybody be free to do that?"

12. Mitch Can Forget About Threatening Corporations- The GOP Doesn't Run Anything in DC Right Now

Companies have 2 reasons for supporting the Dem agenda; it's the right thing to do and we are the ones in charge. If they were smart they'd stop making donations to Republicans and save some money.

They gleefully trumpeted their donations to Republicans to defeat the $15 per hour minimum wage and took credit for it with their board of directors.

27. What Happened To

“Corporations are people” and “money is free speech”, eh Mitchy? That was all well and good when that “free speech” was just money flowing your way, but the second those “people” realized that their profits would be negatively affected by your racist, stupid policies, and they actually “speak”, then you tell them to sit down and shut up? GFY, Mitchy. GFY, because what’s good for the goose is good for the gander, you wrinkly, nasty, Russian ruble sucking traitor.
