ARLINGTON, Va. (7News) -- A Pentagon Force Protection Agency Police officer has been arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder after shooting at and killing suspects he believed to be breaking into a car in Takoma Park early Wednesday. ... The officer, identified by Takoma Park Police on Friday as David Hall Dixon, was off-duty at the time.
According to a statement issued Wednesday by Takoma Park Police, Dixon "advised he observed what he thought was a car being broken into" around 5 a.m. Wednesday at the Takoma Overlook Condominiums in the 7300 block of New Hampshire Avenue. ... "He engaged the suspects who failed to follow his direction," the statement said. "The suspects attempted to flee in a vehicle at which time the officer discharged his service weapon."
Shortly after that, two of the suspects involved arrived at Prince George's Hospital Center suffering from gunshot wounds and later succumbed to their injuries. They were identified Thursday as 32-year-old Dominique Williams, of Hyattsville, and 38-year-old James Lionel Johnson, of District Heights.
Dixon also faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony in the assault against 36-year-old Michael Thomas of Washington, D.C., "who was the driver of the vehicle Mr. Dixon shot into," according to Takoma Park Police. ... Dixon was taken into custody without incident this morning.
The Takoma Park Police Department will be holding a media briefing at 2 p.m. this afternoon at the Takoma Park Police Department 7500 Maple Avenue. 7News will stream that press conference live right here.

I wish to point out that I was not there when it happened, so I do not know all the details of the incident.
Until we have seen evidence presented and heard testimony given, none of us does.

I read per PFPA regulation that they generally are only permitted to serve in a law enforcement capacity off-duty "when violence is being committed or when immediately threatened."

(13,614 posts)It turns out they weren't breaking into anything.
The article doesn't indicate if the murderous cop was white and the "suspects" black.

WASHINGTON (7News) Law enforcement sources confirm to Brad Bell that they are aware of an incident involving David Hall Dixon last May during which he pointed a gun at a homeless woman in his building's lobby.
Dixon is the Pentagon Force Protection Agency Police officer who has been arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder after shooting at and killing suspects he believed to be breaking into a car in Takoma Park early Wednesday.
Brad's sources say Dixon confronted the woman, who was being disruptive and told her to leave.

When she did not leave, the sources say Dixon retrieved a long gun and pointed at the woman while ordering her to leave. The woman did leave the premises and no shots were fired. 7News obtained video of this confrontation from a source, which you can watch below.
