"I'm honestly afraid to get out," Nazario is heard telling the officers after they've approached the vehicle with weapons drawn and order him to exit the vehicle.
"Yeah," Gutierrez says, "you should be."
found this as well
The officers approach the SUV, and Nazario says, "I'm serving this country, and this is how I'm treated?" Gutierrez responds that he is a veteran and "learned to obey."
Gutierrez is heard telling Nazario he was "fixin' to ride the lightning, son," which the lawsuit describes as a "colloquial expression for an execution," particularly in reference to the electric chair.

(373 posts)I wonder if they would have fired him had the video not come out.

(5,897 posts)Of course not. And I hope LT Nazario succeeds with his lawsuit.

(21,447 posts)and convicted for his actions. I don't know Virginia law, but there must be something in the legal code that covers abuse of power, harrassment, and assault.
What about the other cop?

(3,407 posts)Firemen are required to pass regular fitness exams. It should be mandatory for police to demonstrate physical AND mental fitness.

(5,459 posts)A major reform should be a national data base of fired cops, so these psychos don't get hired on elsewhere.
AND.......random drug tests to weed out the roid users. There's no place for either of them on any police force.

(11,302 posts)after story blows up -- sh*t hits the fan -- and Governor goes on TV to call his behavior 'disgusting.'
but before that (like 12 hours ago) -- the decision was on a razor's edge -- really too close to call.

(28,464 posts)That means they knew for four months what these cops did was illegal, it's not like they didn't view the body camera footage before they shared it with Lt. Nazario's lawyers. Also, what's the bullshit about not firing the other guy? Yeah, Gutierrez was lead douchebag but not only did that other cop not intervene, he completely backed up Gutierrez's terrorist actions. He should be fired, too.

(1,910 posts)That arrogant cop tried to get him to let it go. He told him if he made a fuss about it the Army would find out and he would be in trouble. The cop said "it won't make a difference in my life either way". Guess he was wrong about that.

Is there no intelligence test or attitude/aptitude test that these thug-cops must pass before they get to strap on a gun and terrorize people?

This happened 5 months ago. It's only after the vid goes viral that the officers face repercussions.
