Republican congressman vows legal challenge to House metal detectors

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by DonViejo (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Politico

A Georgia congressman who was fined for refusing to walk through metal detectors to enter the House floor said Monday he is preparing to challenge the penalties in court.

The announcement from Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) comes after his appeal was denied by the House Ethics Committee, which he says gives him legal standing to move forward. The congressman said he believes the metal detector stations are unconstitutional.

“While my team and I continue to await an announcement of a fine levied on the Speaker, we are preparing for the next stage of this fight. I will take my case to federal court where I am confident justice will be served,” Clyde said in a statement.

As part of the sweeping changes enacted by House Speaker Nancy Pelsoi (D-Calif.) in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol building, members can be subjected to heafty fines — $5,000 for the first violation and $10,000 for additional infractions — for avoiding the metal detectors. The fines are deducted automatically from lawmakers' paychecks.

And it would also open the doors for no more TSA checks for air travel. Judges will laugh this case out of court; there is probably not a courthouse in the US that doesn't have metal detectors that judges have to pass through every day.

They haven't read it.

They haven't studied it.

They don't know its history.

They don't understand its complexities nor its simplicities.

All these idiots know is to claim a rights violation when they don't like something.

He wants to subject everyone working in the building to the possibility of random death by firearms or other weapons while he pretends to be the righteous warrior by wearing one himself. The truth is he fears those who wouldn't wear one far more than he does those who will.

That's a special class of chicken shit. The press should make this clear to one and all, but that would mean the MSM had figured it out too, rather than pandering to the gunny right wing.

Congressman Andrew Clyde is a combat veteran, small business owner, and a proud Georgian. After earning his commission from the University of Notre Dame, he served as an U.S. Navy officer for 28 years, which included three combat deployments to Kuwait and Iraq. After receiving an honorable discharge, Congressman Clyde made his home in Athens, Georgia and earned a master’s degree in Corporate Finance and Entrepreneurship from the University of Georgia. He established Clyde Armory in 1991 and grew the company into a nationwide firearms business which currently operates two brick-and-mortar locations in Georgia. Congressman Clyde was elected to the 117th Congress in November 2020 as the representative for Georgia’s Ninth Congressional District. He and his wife, Jennifer, are residents of Jackson County and members of the Prince Avenue Baptist Church, where Congressman Clyde serves as a deacon. Congressman Clyde currently serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and the Homeland Security Committee.

Also he's a religious fanatic who provided material support to a crisis pregnancy center in the form of real estate, a 5,000-square-foot facility.

Assumed office on January 3, 2021 so he's off to a rip roaring start. Yee Ha!

He replaced the equally loathsome Doug Collins, who ran for the Senate and failed miserably. The only thing that makes "Congressman" Clyde look good is the incumbent in the adjacent 14th Congressional District, the horrifying Marjorie Taylor Greene.
