KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Seven protesters demanding the release of police body camera video of a student's fatal shooting at a Tennessee high school have been arrested.

News outlets reported those charged with disrupting the meeting were among dozens of demonstrators who filed into a Knox County Commission meeting Monday. Most remained silent, but some were vocal in calling for authorities to release video from a shooting that killed 17-year-old Anthony J. Thompson Jr.

District Attorney Charme Allen has said releasing the video could damage the investigation into the shooting. On Tuesday, the Knoxville branch of the NAACP also joined the growing call to release the footage................

A student who was fatally shot during a confrontation with the police on Monday at a Knoxville, Tenn., high school did not fire the bullet that struck an officer who was wounded, the authorities said on Wednesday.

The disclosure by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation contradicted its earlier statements that the police officer had been shot by the student at Austin-East Magnet High School.

The bureau said on Wednesday that the student’s gun had been fired in a struggle with officers. “Preliminary examinations indicate the bullet that struck the KPD officer was not fired from the student’s handgun,” the bureau said in a statement.

Investigators declined to say whether the bullet that struck the officer in the leg had come from his own gun or from another officer’s weapon.

1. It was released today. It appears the teenager did fire his gun, but that was not

the shot that hit officer in the struggle. Apparently officer shot himself in the struggle.

For what it’s worth, the officer who shot the teenager is also Black and apparently knew the teenager had threatened a girl twice with his gun.

People need to watch the video, read what they can, and make their own decision.

4. Not many where the person shot had a gun. Unarmed people, handcuffed people, etc., are unacceptable.

I don't really care for people running around with a friggin gun, PSPS. Guess you are OK with it. We are not talking about unarmed people here, you know.


Wouldn't complain when people/criminals like these are shot either when confronting police or threatening innocent people:

3. Honestly - not sure what I just saw in the video

Seemed like the kid was not "resisting" that heavily if at all at first, seemed like he did not want to take his hand out of his pocket - I guess? It's really is hard to understand what is going on, he is not brandishing a weapon though from what I could see. Then it seemed the officer reached in and made the gun go off, no? Seemed to me like the police officers escalated the situation. I will admit if I knew the kid had a gun I would want to get it out if his possession, but sometimes rushing in to take something from someone can result in bad circumstances, where a calmer approach would result in not as bad circumstances!

They ALWAYS seem to ESCALATE the situation, and here looks like the situation was "in control" and they decided that was not working for them.

Also, they treat the other kid who was in the restroom like a damn criminal, should they have not had tried to clear out the restroom first thing? The innocent bystander kid puts his hands up and sits down and they are continually yelling at him in a threatening manner, like in a split second they may make the split second decision to shoot him, thank goodness he did not have his back to them and turn too quickly, with his non-gun possessing hands up!

Did the other officers not have body cams, if so where is that footage? Seemed like all shots were initiated by the officers, one possibly from the officer trying to get to a gun in the kids pocket and the other to shoot the kid.

Always escalating, and all it does is place them in more danger, then they always say they were in danger, and that is why they shoot. Almost seems like a tactic?

5. He shot his gun.

"Allen [DA] said Clabough saw a gun in the front pocket of Thompson's hoodie "with Anthony Thompson's hand" on the butt.

"He thinks, 'I'm about to die,'" Allen said of the officer's mindset. "Suddenly, Thompson's gun fired. Baldwin immediately dropped away from Clabough's view. Clabough mistakenly believed Baldwin had been shot so he fired, striking Thompson in the chest."

"Allen said Clabough fired a second shot because he believed Thompson was about to shoot Cash. That shot, she said, struck Willson in the back of his thigh. Cash then climbed on top of Thompson, who was facedown on the floor and bleeding to death."


I don't think Officer Clabough had much choice:
