Covid-19: Delhi hospitals run out of oxygen supplies
Source: BBC
Six hospitals in the Indian capital Delhi have completely run out of oxygen and doctors say other hospitals have just a few hours' worth of supply left.
A number of people have died while waiting for oxygen, and more than 99% of all intensive care beds are full.
India is in the grips of a second wave of Covid infections and on Thursday recorded the highest one-day tally of new cases anywhere in the world.
The country has recorded close to 16 million confirmed infections.

(8,817 posts)how do you help, a nation of a billion people, who are in the height of the crisis and accelerating.
Regardless of any assistance at this point, much of it will be too little and too late.......regretfully........
The world needs to immediately block any one coming from India to their nation..................

(8,817 posts)I normally wouldn't disagree with you, but after the debacle of the U.S. allowing 40,000? people from China to come to the U.S. before it was shut down should have taught the U.S. and others something.
All the world around, we are in a horrific situation of not knowing what to do, what information to trust, what to believe. Hell, look at the conflicts of virus info just here in America! (This is the one year anniversary of the "president" telling us and the world that we should investigate injections of household cleaning agents and shoving light sticks in body orifices to cure the virus) The absolute reality is that we know precious little about this virus at this point, and much less about any mutations.......
Think about how many people in India would lie about having received vaccine, just to get the hell out of India right now. How many would lie about having been exposed, or being asymptomatic in order to leave. You and I sure as hell would!!!!!
I, for one, have been wondering about India, in particular, since this virus began and curious what their government was doing to combat it's spread. Or what their government was doing this past year to prepare for what was sure to come......
Most of the people I run into would probably fail a Jr. High School science test, especially a large percentage of Politicians from both sides.....which sadly has caused as large a problem, as the virus itself.....
A lot of deniers are acting like we are through with the virus, but I gotta tell you, we are a hell of a long ways away from the virus being through with planet earth............................

(6,477 posts)The one exception is Japan, which has a startlingly low vaccination rate.
But the book on this will be bad, and it's one of the reasons I didn't post smiling vaccine selfies. If you've gotten two shots in the US, it's very much at the expense of other places where people will now die in large numbers. India is a forerunner here.

I have been watching and wondering about India since the virus started........and wondering what their government was doing to prepare for this kind of situation.......
