BTW, the local commissar said the water was fine and invited the locals to swim and fish in it. None did, and a few challenged him to do it first to prove it was safe. He backed down and had the police disperse the crowd.

China is more Adam Smith unregulated capitalism than you could imagine. There are few, if any, worker protections, and the ones that are there are rarely enforced (my wife's employers there got caught with his hand in the cookie jar three times and hasn't seen a pay check in over four years because of it. The employers went to jail and the workers got screwed), environmental regulations are laughable and the fine are so small they are labelled as "the cost of doing business," hospitals compete for patients, schools that are not required by law (high schools) compete for students, business grease the palm of government openly and proudly, and there is no social security or single payer health care (except in select provinces like Jiangsu).

It isn't Communist. . .it's free market fascism.

And we're not going to even go into their intellectual repressions, cultural domination of what the CCP instructs is "real" Chinese culture, artistic oppression, or their advancing Xenophobia under their overlord for life, Xi Jinping. . .the Chinese version of Donald Trump.
