New Poll Shows 61 Percent of Republicans Say Dr. Anthony Fauci 'Hurt America'
Source: Mediaite
A substantial majority of Republicans say that Dr. Anthony Fauci hurt America more than he helped it during the coronavirus pandemic.
By Tommy Christopher May 20th, 2021, 11:30 am
A new Yahoo! News/YouGov poll asked respondents to assess the impact of Dr. Faucis tenure as the lead infectious disease expert on coronavirus task forces under both the Trump and Biden administrations.
Respondents were asked Which comes closest to your view of Dr. Anthony Faucis impact during the pandemic?, and given the choice of answering that Fauci helped America more than he hurt America, that Fauci hurt America more than helped America, or not sure.
Among all respondents, 46 percent said Fauci helped more than he hurt, with 30 percent saying he hurt America and 24 percent saying they werent sure.
But among Republicans, double the number of respondents 61 percent said Fauci hurt America, with another 18 percent unsure, and only 22 percent saying Fauci helped. Among Trump voters, an even higher 71 percent said Fauci hurt America.

(2,002 posts)This is what I hate about the media - putting ideas into people's heads that they wouldn't have had otherwise to create a story. Its like when they raised the notions that Trump had the discretion to "not accept" the election results or could pardon himself when nobody with a brain would think a POTUS could do such.
RW hate radio and RW Fox News propaganda has warped the minds of many, many weak and susceptible people.

(9,897 posts)Dr. Fauci, who has spent a lifetime in virology and infectious disease research, "hurt America"?
What does that asinine question even mean? Hurt how?
Then on the flipside, Republican voters - which includes as near as I can tell 100% of the Q-Anon freaks and 100% of Trump fans - think that he definitely 'hurt America'. Now, seeing as these people also believe Trump is an honest, hard-working real billionaire and that the world is run by Jewish Space Lasers and a cabal of Satan worshipping, child murdering adrenochrome addicts, I have to say anyone who does anything but laugh in their faces is being dishonest themselves.
I am going to stay with the advice and opinions of the people who can properly pronounce 'virology' and ignore the guy in the Viking helmet and friends with flag-capes.

(21,972 posts)Fauci was unwilling to help Donald Trump lie about Covid. This caused Trump to lose the election. Ergo, Fauci hurt America.
For the modern Republican, EVERYTHING comes back to Dear Leader.

(13,620 posts)"republicans" really means "trumpers" these days.
"hurt america" really means "hurt trump" with this crowd.
So, what this "poll" really indicated is that 61% of trumpers said Fauci hurt trump. Frankly, I'm pleasantly surprised that it's that low.

(65,227 posts)Pew & Gallup released numbers earlier this spring showing only 24-25% of registered voters self-identify as R.
So, we're talking 14.25 - 15.25% overall.
We shouldn't be at all surprised by this, as it's hardly a shocking number. But, 61% is a scarier number so it ends up in the lede.
How many indies think that would make this a more valuable analysis. Certainly, I'd find it interesting.

(10,779 posts)... either because he was jealous of Trump's superior knowledge, or the whole pandemic was a liberal plot to bring Trump down, or both. Obviously, we'd have a lot fewer cases if Fauci hadn't insisted on more testing, but he obviously lacks common sense. This would have all been over by last summer, just like Trump said, if it weren't for Fauci -- one of the worst villains on Planet Trump.

Of course, they would say that - they are a bunch of idiots and self-serving people. I have no idea why anyone would care what these Republicans think.
