Former President Donald Trump on Thursday joined a chorus of right-wing voices calling for the identity of the law enforcement officer who shot and killed Capitol rioter Ashli Babbitt as she attempted to breach the House chamber on Jan. 6, which the Justice Department determined was an act of “self-defense.”

Key Facts

“Who shot Ashli Babbitt?” Trump said in a statement on Thursday, hours after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her appointments to a committee to probe the attack.

Babbitt was shot on Jan. 6 as she attempted to climb through a broken window and into the Speaker’s Lobby, which leads to the House chamber.

Babbitt, a Air Force veteran who expressed belief in a wide array of pro-Trump conspiracy theories, has been lionized by some right-wing commentators as a martyr for the Trump movement.


Trump joins several right-wing House Republicans, including Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who have called for the identity of the shooter........................
