Protests Hit Athens and Paris Over New Coronavirus Restrictions, Vaccine Mandates
Source: Washington Post
Protests flared in France and Greece on Wednesday as residents angry over coronavirus curbs and vaccine mandates in both countries marched against new, stricter regulations that they say discriminate against people unwilling to be inoculated.
In Paris, demonstrators clashed with police after French President Emmanuel Macron announced sweeping measures to fight the pandemic earlier this week. He mandated vaccinations for all health-care workers and said new rules would require unvaccinated people to show negative coronavirus tests before entering bars, restaurants and other entertainment venues.
Also this week, Greek authorities said all medical workers would need to be immunized or face penalties, and only vaccinated individuals would be allowed to use public indoor spaces until Aug. 31, through the height of Greece's tourism season.
The policies prompted demonstrations in Athens, where thousands gathered outside parliament Wednesday under heavy police presence, Reuters reported. The unrest in France and Greece has underscored the difficulty that some leaders face in weighing public health during a pandemic against policies that appear to encroach on individual freedom...

(2,823 posts)There was an island in Hawaii where all the lepers lived. I don't know if anyone else lived on the island. Molokai, right? Why don't we find an island like that now... move everyone who lives there off that island onto the mainland and then move everyone who doesn't want to get inoculated onto that island? We'll do food and supply air drops. They can live the rest of their lives in some paradise without any government telling them what or what not to do. Of course, at least some of them will have the virus on them or in them when they're moved to the island, so C19 is likely to go thru the population. No doctors, no hospitals. It's a hoax, remember? Let them tough it out. They believe in survival of the fittest? Let them show who among them is the fittest to fight against a virus. Meanwhile, we in the rest of the world can follow the science and do what we can to eradicate the virus as much as possible.
Everyone's happy, right? Except those who had to move from paradise in the first place to accommodate the jackasses.

(111,277 posts)and people who aren't introverted freaks (me) are at the ends of their ropes.
However, antivaxers need to know they're the reason this is happening. I'm just surprised to find so many of them outside the US and UK. PSAs need to be broadcast in prime time and also put on cable/satellite channels. People need to know whom to blame.
I love that an extremist right wing county in MO is offering the equivalent of sneaking a pregnant daughter into Planned Parenthood after sunset, "discreet vaccinations, non public setting." I suppose that needs to be done, also.
We need the PSAs, though. Nobody will watch a speech. They will endure a 15 second spot during regular programming.
I don't know if I could take another lockdown. I would be at the end of my rope.
But really if this keeps going on, I think Mark Zuckerberg needs to be dragged in front of the Hague for crimes against humanity if he keeps allowing anti-vaxxer bullshit to keep spreading on Facebook. I'm convinced that's the main source of vaccine hesitancy.

(111,277 posts)but most of the blood is on the hands of Pox, Newsmax, and OAN, along with Republican preachers who tell their flocks they're disobeying god's will if they get the vax. The whole thing is absolutely insane.
So far, enough people are taking the shots in blue states that we might escape lockdowns there.
Red states are on their own, fucking dumbasses. However, this is why we need PSAs to get through to the reachable ones.

Looking at the graphs for both France and Greece, the citizens should be grateful for these measures. France is bad, quickly becoming a dangerous new wave while Greece is really, really bad with new cases reaching new records any day now. I guess the US isn't the only country full of fucking morons.

(23,105 posts)Did right wingers around the world organize to kill us or are they all just doing this independently, out of right wing hate and stupidity? Are they all really that stupid to think that somehow they are immune? I just hope these demonstrations have their natural outcome and lots of these people experience it first hand. I feel sorry for their families and communities, but not one iota of sympathy for someone who is eligible for the virus, has no major contraindications and just pig headedly refuses it.
