Asa Hutchison Met With Jeers During COVID Event as Cases Surge in Arkansas: 'Liar'

Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson faced some backlash during an event he hosted Friday in an effort to promote COVID-19 vaccinations.

Hutchinson, a Republican, was met with heckling from some members of the audience who called him a "liar," the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported on Saturday. Some members of the audience held up signs as the governor and Arkansas Secretary of Health, Dr. Jose Romero, spoke.

Not all of the more than 100 attendees at the event, which was held at the Siloam Springs Community Building, protested the governor. Some spoke in favor of vaccinations, and raised concerns about the public health risks of COVID-19, according to the newspaper.

The event came as COVID-19 cases are surging in Arkansas, as the highly contagious Delta variant spreads throughout the U.S. The state is seeing its highest number of COVID-19 cases since January, local news station KARK reported on Friday.

This is why Republicans and right wing media like Fox News have blood on their hands knowingly pushing COVID misinformation for political advantage, but then finds themselves boxed in when they have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

This is why we need to fight from having America as a whole fall into a right media fueled death spiral, because Republicans have created a QAnon, reality ignoring monster that even they can no longer control.

because Florida is such a large tourist destination. If the state is a hotbed for COVID variants, visitors could end up bringing the virus home with them if they are not vaccinated, masking, and trying to practice social distancing.

SSHHP (same stubborn hard-headed people) will continue, but their numbers can be reduced enough to show DeSantis is the economic and health disaster for the state that he is. Really, we're talking about a very dangerous health situation being compounded many times over because of this psychopath. It needs to be an official boycott. Do we need to bring this to the attention of the CDC or will they realize this on their own? I think they will realize it, but how soon will we see any action?

Some of the fallout from his policies will happen naturally:

Competitive vacation spots will realize this DeSantis mistake on their own and target their advertising accordingly. I used to work in marketing/advertising so I know this to be the case. Advertising dollars are always being analyzed for where they will be most effective.

Regardless, DeSantis is a national health hazard and attention needs to be called to this situation.

I wonder what some other ways are to handle this problem. Which of our leaders will step up and be the voice for it?
