'No evidence' Lollapalooza was a super spreader event, Chicago official says

Source: The Hill

Chicago's top public health officials said Thursday that there is currently “no evidence” that the Lollapalooza music festival was a super-spreader event for COVID-19.

Allison Arwady, Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health, said in a news conference that there have been no “unexpected findings” two weeks since the four-day festival began on July 29.

“We've had no unexpected findings at this point. There’s no evidence at this point of a super spreader event, and there's no evidence of substantial impact to Chicago's COVID epidemiology,” Arwady said.

Only 203 cases have been identified in the two weeks since the festival began, Arwady said. This number includes people who were diagnosed with COVID-19 on or after attending the festival.

Sturgis has taken zero precautions, and many defiant unvaxxed attendees. Still, it's mostly outside.

Lollapalooza required jabs &/or tests, and masking.

They at least tried to do some sensible precautions. Even if not 100% effective, mitigation is better then the other alternatives (i.e prohibition, or not taking any precautions).

203 is remarkably light, given the doomsaying that covered the entire GD first page on the days of the festival.

Also, zero hospitalizations or deaths among that number.

ZERO.

Vaccination works. Don't let the doom sayers tell you different.

Somehow, I've become a Covid optimist, and an advocate for allowing the vaccinated to resume some semblance of normalcy. I even attended large outdoor events in July... UNMASKED.

Lollapalooza was a calculated risk, and they took appropriate precautions. This result isn't a surprise.

Don't let people shit on the parade! Let's wait and see what Sturgis cooks up before we pass judgement.

The breakdown was as follows:

Among those who tested positive, city officials said 138 were Illinois residents from outside Chicago, 58 were from the city and seven were from out of state. Nearly 80% of those who tested positive were under 30, and about 62% were white, Arwady said.
