House Republicans Ask Attorney General Garland to Investigate former Afghan President: 'A Coward and

Grifter’

House Republicans are demanding that Attorney General Merrick Garland investigate allegations that Afghanistan’s former president, Ashraf Ghani, fled the country with $169 million in cash.

“Reports indicate that Ghani in fact had so much looted money with him when he fled Afghanistan that not all of it would fit in his helicopter, and that he was forced to leave money lying on the tarmac,” the group wrote in a Tuesday letter to Garland. “The amount and nature of his flight from Afghanistan raises the specter that he illegally and corruptly embezzled these funds from U.S. assistance intended for the Afghan people’s welfare and defense.”

Noting the United States spent $145 billion on Afghanistan’s reconstruction in addition to $837 billion on the war effort, they said it was “imperative that corrupt foreign government officials not be permitted to personally enrich themselves with U.S. taxpayer money.” They also took aim at Ghani’s leadership, saying his “reckless and cowardly actions … contributed to the speed with which the Taliban took over the country.”

The letter was signed by Reps. James Comer (KY), the top Republican on the House Oversight Committee, and Glenn Grothman (WI), the ranking Republican on Oversight’s national security subcommittee. The duo closed the letter by asking whether Garland was looking into the reports, and whether the Justice Department had insight into whether the alleged money came from U.S. funding for the country. They also asked what the department was planning to do “to bring him to justice.”

I wouldn't think he has any power over another country's internal affairs. Glad you mentioned it. 🌞 Judi Lynn Aug 2021 #7

Even if he stole $0, his actions are most definitely worthy of investigation.

Not to 'agree with RePuQs' but I can get behind looking into this dudes actions.

They watched - supported - ignored - encouraged IQ45 to use the office of the President to enrich his own floundering corporate scam, sending his own despicable children throughout the world with full US security to further enrich their family scam, used federal monies to pay for 'security' for the guy at his own golf clubs (charging full price for all agents), thus enriching his own establishments.

And these RepubliQan morons want our Attorney General to investigate someone from the other side of the world?

They never fail to prove themselves to be more and more ridiculous every day!

the republican party is no longer of any use to American people for simple fact that they don't give a rat's ass about people ! proven fact ! think about it ! moscow mitch wanted a Russian aluminum plant in Kentucky, didn't happen. TFG spent a millions on playing cow pasture pool ! TFG got boo'd all to hell at a national 's baseball game & cry'd like a little girl ! had all kind's of laughs watching the insurrection on tv tearing up our house in Washington DC, that's just a little bit .

JUST A VERY PISSED OFF VETERAN !

I would also think that the purpose of the "investigation" would be to find out how the US Government was duped by this foreign official - and I'm thinking that these Republican Congressmen wouldn't really be too anxious to hear a true, sincere, official answer.....

Afghanistan is a separate country and it's their problem to investigate their former president for corruption.
Besides, the Democrats are busy looking into TFG's corruption. And the Republicans...well they were never any good at handling corruption in their party.
Only things they're good at are attacking the Democrats, destroying voting rights, enabling a pandemic, controlling women's reproductive rights, condemning LGBT rights, and worshiping at the feet of TFG.

Question: Does TFG mean "the former guy", "the fat guy", or both?
