Dozens of women have domestic violence complaints ignored by U.S. military: report

A CBS News investigation, conducted over two years and published this week, detail a pattern of women being abused by spouses and, after reporting instances of violence to military leadership, finding their claims go largely ignored.

More than 40 women who said they had reported instances of domestic violence to the military in recent years. Most of them described the system as broken, and suggested military leaders are unwilling to hold abusers accountable.

One of them was Army Major Leah Olszewski, who tearfully recounted being physically assaulted, and a miscarriage that she believes was as a result of her assault. Olszewski said she reported her abuse to the Air Force.

"I had been strangulated. He had also threatened to break my neck, bust my front teeth out," Olszewski told CBS' Norah O'Donnell. "He kicked me in the side of the stomach. And I flew off the bed into the closet doors. And then he took the comforter, and walked off like nothing had happened."

my kid knew a young woman in the army. she was raped (on several occasions) by a military guy.
she reported it -- nothing really happened (i can't quite remember; maybe a wrist slap)

anyway, this prick terrorized her and would be in her place, waiting for her. when she came home. he broke in during the night a couple times. i think he beat the crap out of her one of those times.

(from what i recall, they were both living on base)

nothing came of it. she, on the other hand, ended up with ptsd.

5. Many cases are resolved without fanfare

I helped spirit a woman to another posting with "midnight orders". Moved her and her child far far away from her abuser. Sadly, too many 'leaders' are afraid to act.

I'm glad there are some good leaders. My husband is an OIF Veteran and was ARNG for 13 years. He forbade our daughter to even think of enlisting. He saw too many things and had to protect too many of his soldiers on his base.
