Army vax deadline: 2 battalion commanders relieved, discharges begin January, 98% comply
Source: Military Times
The Armys deadline for active duty troops to be vaccinated against COVID-19 passed Wednesday, and Army officials offered a snapshot of the services data and next steps in a Thursday morning release.
The vast majority of the Armys approximately 485,900 active duty soldiers have complied with the Pentagons vaccine requirement, the release said 96% of troops are fully vaccinated, and an additional 2% have received at least one dose.
Only 3,864 soldiers have refused the vaccination order without a pending or approved exemption, the release said. That includes two battalion commanders and an additional four leaders who have been relieved, but the release didnt specify the rank or echelon of the latter four.
In January, commanders will begin involuntarily discharging soldiers who have refused the shot. Most of them 2,767 have already received a general officer memorandum of reprimand, an adverse administrative action that could end their careers even if they now opt to get the shot.

(21,347 posts)Vaccine mandates weed out soldiers who don't care about their fellow soldiers. It weeds out nurses who don't follow science. It weeds out police officers who can't be trusted with the public good.
All across the country, these firings are making companies stronger. Across the board, even my own company in aerospace, this is weeding out people who should not be trusted with important decisions, ever.

(7,465 posts)A Battalion Commander is an O5 with probably 16-20 years. If they are being administratively seperated, some could lose their retirement if they are under 18 years service. 18-20 it's up to Sec Army whether they do or not.
Also if you got selected for BN CDR your odds of getting promoted to Colonel were pretty darn high which means those two idiots just threw away literally millions long term even if they can retire as an O5.

(2,025 posts)A certain % of people, especially lower ranking enlisted personnel, are seeking rapid discharge at any given time. I suspect a good % of the number who have refused and are not seeking exemptions, fall into the category. In other words- mandatory vax is an easy way out of a contract they no longer want.

(5,305 posts)it was that or prison (Track or Tag from Wassilla?). So getting booted out like this might be a good way to skirt what you didin't want in the 1st place and avoid going to prison. Who knows if that is true or not but a possibility.

(113,804 posts)The Marine Corps has booted 103 of its members for refusing the Covid vaccine, the service announced on Thursday, even as all the military branches report that a vast majority of troops have gotten the shots.
The news comes the same day the Army announced that it has relieved six leaders including two commanding officers over the issue, and that almost 4,000 active-duty soldiers have refused the vaccine.
The two Army officers, both of whom commanded active-duty battalions, join Navy Cmdr. Lucian Kins, the executive officer of the destroyer USS Winston S. Churchill, who was relieved this month, as the highest-ranking officers to be punished for defying the order.
The Army would not identify the two officers.

(67,930 posts)But seriously.
When I was in, I never would have dreamed of disobeying a vaccine order. We were told to get vaccinated and we got vaccinated. Even the dim bulbs among us understood the fundamental fact that vaccines prevent disease and the spread of disease.
The anti-vaxxers have done their squalid work well

(139,780 posts)for the COVID-19 vaccines. I have newer one of those for when I traveled to Egypt in 1992 (needed yellow fever, typhoid, tetanus and polio boosters, etc) and I found that some countries like Israel, have been using their version of that form for the COVID-19 vaccination records.
I know almost a century ago, the original intent of that form was aimed at yellow fever vaccinations (and it was developed by W.H.O. and internationally recognized), but travelers have basically put all the other vaccines on there too.

(7,534 posts)When I served they just marched us down to some building in basic training and gave us shots in both arms and then marched us back to our barracks. There was one option - you marched as a unit and received your shots - something like 8-10 of them, thank you.
