Source: Daily Mail

To the surprise of many, Ron DeSantis has found a new calling as a breast cancer warrior. His appearances at "faith" and football events were his first public appearances since December 17- also roughly the start of the Omicron surge in Florida. He attributes his lack of visibility and accessibility during the current pandemic surge to his deep personal involvement in his wife's cancer treatment.

As DeSantis' disappearance started to become a media story, my wife said "he's going to play the cancer card." Bingo!

Radiation treatment is 30 minutes max and chemo isn’t more than a day. Even a full mastectomy wouldn’t require 24/7 care for two weeks. This is nothing but a lame ass attempt to distract from the fact his “leadership” has put Florida on the map again for its soaring Covid rates.

Sat Jan 1, 2022, 12:51 PM
Jan 2022

Sure, the time of the actual cancer treatment is short, but the recovery period and side effects can last for weeks or months, sometimes for life.

We regularly have people at work that use their FMLA leave to care for a spouse or child following cancer treatment, it’s not an instant recovery.

Not defending Desantis, but the idea that there are no side effects or recovery needed after chemo or radiation is flawed. I hope no political opponents or anyone in the media use that argument publicly.

I had surgery and was out of work 6 weeks, then went back to work when chemo treatments started. It WAS a big deal toward the end of the treatments, though. You just get weaker and weaker and that weakness lasts probably a month or so after the last treatment. But then it takes a couple of years to get your energy back.

But DeSatan's wife could have had surgery. Also he or she could have had COVID. He's such a political stunt man, I wouldn't put it past him to make up something about his wife to get some political mileage out of it. That'd be better than admitting COVID put him down.

Sat Jan 1, 2022, 12:47 PM

Everything he has done on Covid has been to woo the support of the anti-mask, anti-vax portion of the Republican base. He has famously opposed any and all public health mandates, posing as a defender of personal choice and "freedom." He has been willing to accept higher case rates and pushed monoclonal antibody treatments as an alternative. His treatment program is turning useless as 1) supplies of the drugs are inadequate to deal with the surge, and 2) the widely used drugs that were effective against Delta appear to be far less effective against Omicron.

Prediction: DeSantis, and DeSantis through Ladapo, will blame Biden/Fauci for not instantly turning on a spigot of effective treatments.

Sat Jan 1, 2022, 01:29 PM
Jan 2022

Commenters note that it is possible that Casey DeSantis had bad side effects from whatever procedure was used to deal with her breast cancer. That's true. I also suspect that, whatever the actual circumstances, Ron DeSantis' personal attention would add nothing to the quality of the care already provided by paid medical staff which is surely available to the governor's family. Because of "privacy concerns," we will never know the actual circumstances except as they are relayed to us by the family. I'm fine with that, but I will take all such communications, especially those relayed through his office, with a grain of salt.

Ordinarily, we think of journalism as journalists reviewing a set of events and facts and using them to tell a story that hopefully engages and informs the reader. That is not what happens in the era of Fox News/Trump. The real process is- the story is selected first and then the reporter selects facts and events that support the story. In this case, the story is "Ron DeSantis is a victim." This story will be told whenever the subject of his inept response to Omicron is brought up.

For endless examples of this process, look at Fox News. Their programming has coagulated around a single theme: things that make you angry and why it's Biden's (or Fauci, or one of his other surrogate's) fault.

62. So if prayer works so well, why does his wife go to a doctor?

I mean, surely if mass prayer led by the governor can cure drought and mass shootings, then his wife's cancer should be a breeze. Especially is a state as heavily populated as Florida.

Newt always had a great bedside manner with the ladies in critical care.

77. As someone who's currently living life with a wife with breast cancer...

And dealing with a double mastectomy, it ain't that bad. Her words, not mine. She spent one night in the hospital. I was back to work in two days, although I had tremendous flexibility to be at home tending to her needs. Nowadays, if it's caught early, the surgery is no more worrying than a tonsillectomy.

Ms. DeSantis especially is not entitled to sympathy, much less attention.

I realize I'm being cruel, but they deserve it.

while he and his wife could've gone "Betty Ford". Something stinks in Tallahassee. "Weeks after Ford became first lady, she underwent a mastectomy for breast cancer on September 28, 1974, after having been diagnosed with the disease.[24] Ford decided to be open about her illness because "There had been so much cover-up during Watergate that we wanted to be sure there would be no cover-up in the Ford administration."[25] Her openness about her cancer and treatment raised the visibility of a disease that Americans had previously been reluctant to talk about." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betty_Ford#Health_and_breast_cancer_awareness

She was a real American and not just another demonic republican. All the demonic republicans came after Ford. Reagan, Bush (father and son) and Trump. Nixon was to Reagan what John the Baptist was to Christ, if Christ was Lucifer(Reagan) and not the savior of our world.

sink into the deepest darkest hell pit where they belong. Both the Death master and his wife will get no pity from me. They both belong in jail for child abuse. Damn them both to hell.

Now here is a republican child who isn't afraid to tell the truth about her demonic dad. God bless her but not her dad.

He has always been willing to use his family as props for his political career and his wife (a former tv personality) is down with it.
