Whoopi Goldberg has tested positive for Covid-19, "The View" co-host Joy Behar announced on Monday's episode of the talk show.
Behar told viewers that Goldberg's case was mild thus far.
"They say there's no place like home for the holidays and that's exactly where we are this year," Behar said of the show's panelists. "Happy New Year from all of our living rooms. As you can see we're back in boxes and doing the show remotely, hopefully for just a week, I'm praying that it's just a week but you never know because this omicron thing is all over the place."
She continued: "Why am I here instead of Whoopi? Well, Whoopi, unfortunately, tested positive over the break but she'll be back probably next week. Since she's vaxxed and boosted, her symptoms have been very, very, mild. But we're being super cautious here at 'The View.'"

I'm not even sure Omicron cases pass the threshold for news at this point, particularly for the vaccinated. What does everyone think? Should the threshold for news be that the person is seriously symptomatic?

The cases have been so mild, that it is less severe than the flu
We're vaccinated and boosted.

Just my humble opinion.

(2,343 posts)It's interesting for some, I suppose. But, we wouldn't report her having the cold or the flu even, unless she was in bad shape.

(26,844 posts)I have not gotten it so far. And while I'm not as obsessive as some -- I do go to the grocery store, I occasionally eat in restaurants -- I have the good fortune to live in northern New Mexico, where mask wearing is almost universal. And the masks are mostly correctly worn. Plus, we have a very high vaccination and booster rate.
It will be interesting to see how the next major variant plays out. Omicron is far more infectious, but far less serious than Delta. Which is actually in keeping with how diseases normally mutate. I'm going to predict that the next major noticeable mutation will be even less serious than Omicron. Eventually, this will probably become a lot like seasonal flu, just somewhat different. Keep in mind that Covid19 isn't particularly deadly, especially as compared to various other things out there.

(34,195 posts)They are in another state than me.
However I have used it as a reminder to stock up on over the counter remedies for flu-like symptoms, which they have.
Hoping I do not get it but I want to be prepared in case and have this stuff on hand and to be ready.
I have also upgraded from a simple cloth mask to one recommended by the CDC.
Bought a couple.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
Well this ever be over?
