Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib to Seek Re-Election in New Seat Created Through Redistricting
Source: Newsweek
Michigan Representative Rashida Tlaib will seek re-election in a new Detroit-area seat created through redistricting.
Tlaib, one of the first two Muslim women in Congress, announced her decision on Wednesday to run in the new 12th district, which includes areas of Detroit and suburbs like Dearborn and Southfield. The new seat would have almost two-thirds of the people she currently represents.
"I am excited about the opportunity to expand our work to include more communities that want the same access to a better quality of life, including clean air and water, affordable housing, economic justice and more," Tlaib, a Democrat who is in her second term, said in a statement.
Just hours before Tlaib's announcement, Democratic Representative Brenda Lawrence said she will retire from Congress instead of run in the district.

(6,228 posts)I'm in the new 13th which Rep Tlaib would have been the rep. I was/am in the old 12th which is Rep Debbie Dingell's district. Rep Dingell said she would move to Ann Arbor to run in the new 6th district. Now with Tlaib running in the new 12th, I wish Dingell would run in the 13th.

No matter who the politician is, those are the things that I look for (especially when it comes to being loyal to the party and having President Biden's back by supporting his agenda, and supporting our congressional leaders Pelosi and Schumer) rather than focusing on the window dressing or on the tweets and TV interviews.

(42,862 posts)But, I always like to give the benefit of the doubt anyway, so I was hoping for some elaboration on exactly what it is about her that earns your admiration. Many people admire politicians because of the record of legislative accomplishments or for their unwavering support of party, support of party-leaders, and support of the president's agenda. I was giving you those things as examples in the hopes that you could be more specific.
Oh well. Have a nice day.
