US Rep. Adam Kinzinger says he'll focus on GOP anti-Trump movement rather than run for statewide off

Source: Chicago Tribune

Retiring Republican U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger said in a video Wednesday that he will forego a bid for U.S. Senate or Illinois governor to focus on the fight against former President Donald Trump’s influence over the GOP.

“This time last year I hoped victory would come in a matter of months. Now I see it will take years,” the six-term lawmaker from Channahon said on the eve of the one-year anniversary of the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

“That’s why I’m transitioning from serving just one corner of Illinois into fighting this new nationwide mission full time,” he said.

Kinzinger has been one of the few Republicans on Capitol Hill to oppose Trump’s leadership of the GOP and decry baseless allegations that the 2020 presidential election had been stolen. He formed the Country First political action committee and movement last year to back Republicans opposed to the former president.

Kinzinger is insanely right wing. He just isn't pro insurrection.

5. He didn't say Kinzinger is insane, he meant "very right wing", "insanely right wing".

He refuses to recognize the good deeds brought in by Democrats, he wants to oppose everything Democrats bring to the table, his motivation seems to be his hate for trump. That seems to be the one thing he understands, that trump is a criminal and bad for the country and his party.

4. "Kinzinger is insanely right wing. He just isn't pro insurrection." Yes, and that is a shame

He is like a 40W bulb, when he could be a 120W, he needs to have that extra 80W to realize the republican party is nothing but rhetoric, it has never been a governing party, the last republican worth anything was Theodore Roosevelt, and that was almost a century ago, even he had to fight republican corruption, Teddy was a progressive, not a right wing politician. The rest of republicans after him have been nothing but fake, only interested in their pockets, power and the prestige that any high office in government brings, many of them are just interested in the revolving door their position brings once out of office, to them it is a profitable venture, nothing else, that is why they act like Lemmings, they must obey their corporate masters to pave their future as lobbyist or any high position their obedience will bring.

11. How extensive was our involvement in Vietnam during his terms?

My historical knowledge on this topic is thin, but I thought it wasn't until the 1964 Gulf of Tonkin Resolution that things really heated up.

13. It's not how we were involved; it is he refused to sign the 1954 Geneva Accord

allowing free elections in Vietnam that would have united the North and South and then they were to have free elections. He did not want Ho Chi Mihn to be elected president. The Vietnamese soldiers fought against the Japanese in WWII and we repaid them by not letting them be free from the French. When the French lost at Dien Bien Phu is when the 1954 Geneva Accord was written.

All too many times, the world's leading democracy has subverted democratic movements in other nations. In Haiti, in Iran, in Chile, in Indochina - the list goes on and on.

10. I hope a Republican will run in 2024 as an Indie candidate to split the GOP vote if Trump runs.

Since Kinzinger isn't running, maybe he'd be that person. There must be enough voters who haven't left the Republican Party who would vote for a sane candidate over the Great Orange One. If the vote for the Slobfather is decimated, we won't have to go through this stolen election bullshit next time around.

You know, in 2015 when I was desperately hoping the GOP would follow their own rules at their convention which would have denied Trump the nomination, I was predicting if Trump got in office that it'd be at least 80 years to recover.

The fascist Peronista party in Argentina were still going strong with their cult at the 80 year mark.

Even at this point, I don't think the anti-Trump Republicans understand how badly they allowed themselves to be screwed.

And a less than stellar rep (he "represents" my district - nothing but a younger version of Manzullo - Manzullo-lite I call him). He's not running for statewide office because he can't win. Doubt if any puke can win a statewide office in IL. Rauner was an anomaly and won despite not being anti-choice, anti-LGBTQ and was definitely not a hypo-christian (the few tolerable things about him). Money was his motivator and Madigan played him like a fiddle.

Look at his voting record. Listen to his words. Do not trust this man.

He does want to run for something, eventually. I wonder if he still has his war che$$t.
