Then-Vice President-elect Kamala Harris was inside Democratic National Committee headquarters on Jan. 6, 2021, when a pipe bomb was discovered outside the building, according to four people familiar with her movements that day.

Capitol Police began investigating the pipe bomb at 1:07 p.m., according to an official Capitol Police timeline of events obtained by POLITICO. The timeline says that Capitol Police and the Secret Service evacuated an unnamed “protectee” at approximately 1:14 p.m, seven minutes later. The four people, among them a White House official and a former law enforcement official, confirmed that Harris was the Secret Service protectee identified in the timeline, which has circulated on Capitol Hill.

Harris’ presence inside the building while a bomb was right outside raises sobering questions about her security that day. It also raises the chilling prospect that the riots could have been far more destructive than they already were, with the incoming Vice President's life directly endangered. Federal law enforcement officials have faced harsh criticism for failing to anticipate the chaotic scene around the Electoral College certification one year ago, despite receiving a host of warnings about possible chaos.

The DNC bomb threat was neutralized at 4:36 p.m., according to the timeline. Another pipe bomb discovered at the RNC was neutralized at 3:33 p.m. No suspects have been arrested so far in relation to the bombs.

Now I don't wonder they're being tight-lipped about this. They not only need to know who placed the bombs, but who caused them to be placed, and if information leaked as to her schedule. This is 2 levels more serious now.

The device at the DNC was placed outside near a park bench. Clearly not an assassination attempt , it appears to have been a terror/diversion attempt.

These devices were placed the evening before the Capitol riots — between 7:30pm and 8:30pm.

One device was placed in an alley behind the RNC, located at 310 First Street, Southeast.

The other was placed next to a park bench near the DNC, located at 430 South Capitol Street, Southeast, #3.

4. How Much Do We Really Know About These Bombs And.....

why haven't we heard more about them in the past year.

I luckily caught a video clip on on of the cable news shows today that briefly showed the person that planted the bombs. I guess that they got video from security cameras in the area where these were placed.

I would like to see all the video that they captured of the planting of these devices and the person that did the planting.

Now - is it said anywhere as to how powerful these devices were? Did they in fact detonate these devices or how did they diffuse them?

How much investigational work has gone into trying to determine who the bomber was?

I know that they have some video - but were they able to capture additional video from other area security cameras in the immediate area? Could they have actually followed this person - to a car or getaway vehicle? Could they have determined if this person had additional help? - like an accomplice that came along with them?

Have they analyzed the components of these bomb devices - to determine where the components came from? - where they might have been purchased?

Did these devices have similar characteristics of other bombs they might have encountered in the past?

All I'm saying here is that this seems like an important piece of information - given what went on at the Capitol and now the suspicions that all of this was pre-planned.

Why haven't we heard more about these bombs and what they are doing to determine where they came from and who placed them?

The explosive devices the suspect made were rather generic: simple bombs made from 1-by-8-inch galvanized steel pipes — the kind plumbers use — with plastic kitchen timers mounted on top, the ones you spin around to set. The FBI said the explosive inside was homemade black powder, which can be a mix of just about anything that will ignite; typically it includes saltpeter, sulfur and gunpowder.

"What I think would be accurate to say, given the information we have, is this is a very hazardous device that could kill people," said Barry Black, a retired FBI special agent and master bomb technician who helped investigate the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.

If you look at the picture it appears to use a 60-minute kitchen timer. That would imply a maximum of 60 minutes from placement to detonation time.

The fact that the bomber didn't even put the device in a paper bag to hide it makes it look like it was designed to be found and provoke a large police response the next day.

Whoever did it is still at large (am guessing that the security cameras couldn't clearly capture the face to aid in an ID and it's possible that if they were able to find the "witnesses" - e.g., one who was walking a dog I think in the neighborhood, that the person probably had no good info to provide).

Geez... this happened just over a year ago and feels like only a couple months.
