"SWAT operations" are going on in the area. CNN is talking about a possibility of this being a family dispute, but say they're just speculating.
I certainly hope this isn't an anti-Semitic attack.

(6,034 posts)The fact that's on your mind says a lot.
If the attacker was white supremacist I feel your reaction would be something else.

(6,034 posts)I noticed that when an antisemitic incident there is always a different recaption depending on the ideology of the perpetrator.
When the attacker is a white supremist many on the right ignore it and Jews find support on the left.
Visa versa if the attacker is a Muslim.
Also there are those on the left who are unwilling to fight against antisemitism in the same way they fight against other forms of discrimination because Jews are thought of as white

(22,656 posts)In January 2022, a man referring to Siddiqui as his "sister" took hostages at the Beth Israel synagogue in Colleyville, Texas, near where she is imprisoned, and demanded her release.[222] Her only biological brother Muhammad Siddiqui has denied being the hostage taker through an attorney.[223] The attorney who currently represents Siddiqui said "she has absolutely no involvement with [the hostage crisis]" and added, "We strongly condemn the hostage-taking at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville [...] We implore the hostage taker to immediately release all hostages and turn himself in."[224]

In San Antonio, Texas, police said they will "monitor for any possible local threats." Beverly Hills, California, police said out of an abundance of caution, they "will be increasing patrols around our Jewish houses of worship"

CAIR, the Council of American Islamic Relations, says the hostage taker is not the brother of the jailed Siddiqui, that she has a brother but it's not this man.
. . .
CAIR went on to condemn this attack:
This latest antisemitic attack at a house of worship is an unacceptable act of evil, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said in a statement. We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community, and we pray that law enforcement authorities are able to swiftly and safely free the hostages. No cause can justify or excuse this crime.
