House votes to cap cost of insulin at $35
Source: ABC News
Congress could soon send to the president's desk a bill that would cap the cost of the lifesaving drug insulin at $35 per month -- a move that could significantly reduce and rein in out-of-pocket drug costs for millions of Americans with diabetes.
The House approved the bill Thursday by a vote of 232-193, with 12 Republicans joining all Democrats in support.
The bill now heads to the Senate, and it could be taken up in the upper chamber in a matter of weeks if there is bipartisan agreement.
Experts say it costs less than $10 a vial to manufacture, yet there are still American families with insurance paying hundreds of dollars per vial of insulin.

So most of the GOP wants diabetics to pay more.

(67,111 posts)other R's are. They could care less about humanity. They are only interested in power and money. It always amazes me why often those with nothing vote for R's. I guess the propaganda is just so damn effective. Often the populace is their own worst enemy. ... I have so many WTF's each day.

(129,160 posts)Senate prospects for bill
Democrats, led by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, have indicated that lowering the cost of insulin is a huge priority and they hope to have a bill on the floor as soon as next month. "I intend to put a proposal on the floor as soon as we can after Easter," Schumer said on the Senate floor last week.
Georgia Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock has already introduced the Affordable Insulin Now Act in the Senate, which would similarly cap the cost of insulin at $35 per month. His bill has support from dozens of Democratic senators but no Republicans.
GOP Sen. Susan Collins is also working on a bipartisan measure with Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen that would mirror the House's legislation to cap the cost of insulin to $35. However, the Collins-Shaheen bill is intended to be broader than Warnocks $35 cap and would seek to lower the underlying cost of insulin.
Schumer said the final product in the Senate could include pieces from both proposals.

(15,806 posts)Here in Colorado's new 8th CD we have excellent Dems running for the seat, Tedesco and Caraveo. Both bring much, but pediatrician Yadiro Caraveo has a bit of an edge, and there's no way in hell she would have voted against the bill. In Buck's CD4 the magats are painted into the landscape, in spite of the candidacy of Dem Ike McCorkle who outdistances Buck in smarts, record, decency, integrity, ethics, sense and humanity; I won't miss being stuck with Buck. There are GOPers wanting the new seat, but at this point the Dems are slightly favored. We have our work cut out for us, but losing Buck is providing a bit of energy to our efforts.

(22,822 posts)Will a single Deplorable in the Senate vote for the same? I bet one or two of them have a parent or other family member who needs insulin to stay alive. Will they vote against those who can't afford that?

(21,500 posts)for my NY district, Tom Reed, voted against it.
In 2019, he made a point of saying that he knows how important it is to bring down the cost of insulin because he has a child who is a type 1 diabetic. He claimed then that he supported an attempt to bring down the cost to $68 a month.
Guess $35 was too low for the sleezebag to vote yes.

(3,409 posts)"The bill caps cost-sharing for a month's supply of insulin starting in 2023 at whichever amount is lower: $35, or 25% of a plan's negotiated price, according to the bill's text. The bill does not lower the overall price of insulin; it would likely shift more of the cost onto insurers and employers."
We need to address universal health care now and stop kicking the can down the road. Damn the Republicans!!
