Charlie Crist defends Disney, says DeSantis acting like he wants to be 'king of Florida'
Source: Sun Sentinel
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist said Thursday that Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis wants to be the king of Florida, and is acting like he already has that title by ruthlessly going after anyone who defies him.
What hes trying to do is have a one-man rule of this great state, Crist said, This governor seems to really want to centralize all power in himself. He also called DeSantis an angry dude.
Appearing in Fort Lauderdale, Crist pointed to what played out in Tallahassee this week: The Legislature adopted DeSantis proposed boundaries for Florida congressional districts that cut in half, from four to two, number of districts created to maximize the chances Black lawmakers will win election, and passed legislation critics decried as retaliation against the against the Walt Disney Co. after it crossed the governor.
DeSantis told the Legislature to sunset the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the special local government that Disney used to develop Disney World. The district, created in 1967, handles zoning, roads, fire-rescue, water and sewer and other government functions in Disney Worlds sprawling territory in Orange and Osceola counties.

I would like to see the Woman who stood up to the fascists the other day, the one who's opponent accused her of enabling pedos.
Half of the people wont vote and of that half wont more than half of them be under 30? We have to do something different.

(31,112 posts)And you are referring to the average age of FL resident I assume.
OK you got me there, but still nationwide there are so many people, especially young people, who dont think there is any reason to vote. This is how we lose our lives.

(4,993 posts)FL has a 2 term limit on the governor.
Assuming that he wins in 2022 (and his approval numbers, unfortunately, make that highly likely), we will only be stuck with him for that term and then he is done.
I have not seen any numbers since the Disney and "Don't say gay" issues so that is all subject to change.

(4,993 posts)I can see the state legislature proposing the change. It will then require a 60% approval in a referendum which I doubt will happen as Desatan won by less than 0.5% of the vote.

(6,537 posts)I hafta say that Florida is a lot less attractive with all the negative news that is coming out of it these days with that guy at the helm. You can cross it off your list of places to visit, what with Desantis, the alligators ready to eat you, the hurricanes, and the loss of Disney World.
There is reason to rethink anything you are doing within the state, from school to airports that happen to be in the state. Florida is usually listed as a perk for being the first port back to the States when you are coming in from the Caribbean. Now, straight in flights are preferable to setting down in Florida. The only good thing is that it is still a part of the good old USA, and some Federal rights still apply to you. But, they are turning into a fly-over state.
Getting rid of Disney accomplishes nothing for the state of Florida. They must be into losses of revenue from tourists. Thank goodness I live in California where Disneyland is still available to me. Despite the incredible cost of visiting it, I still love Disney products.
Look over there! I am the tall female wearing a Donald Duck hat. I don't wanna look behind the curtain. I prefer the show out front, and all that a Disney park allows you to feel. I don't wear my duck hat to business meetings, but it is perfectly acceptable attire within the park.
I feel bad that Florida is suffering this loss of respect. Florida, you know what you have to do...
