Mitch McConnell says a national abortion ban is 'possible' as GOP candidates dodge topic
Source: USA Today
WASHINGTON Republicans are on the verge of a long-sought legal victory striking down Roe v. Wade but their political candidates are in no rush to talk about it on the campaign trail.
GOP campaign officials are advising candidates to downplay and soft-pedal the prospects of anti-abortion legislation as they battle pro-choice Democrats for control of Congress and various statehouses across the country.
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell told USA Today that a national abortion ban is possible if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade.
Said McConnell: With regard to the abortion issue, I think its pretty clear where Senate Republicans stand.

(792 posts)Per social media tomorrow night (May 9th) rally at Alito's house. Women want to be heard because it's apparent that those in power aren't listening and/or just don't give a rat's a$$. How does a group in their ivory tower just make massive decisions impacting upon millions without even seeking insight into the potential impact? We won't go back.

The differences between the states will then be just about as wide as it was in 1860.

(38,726 posts)Telling a woman, if she can have a baby...by the Supreme Court of the U.S. Government is totally stupid.
...repeat.............NO ONE TELLS A WOMAN IF SHE CAN HAVE A BABY OR NOT HAVE A BABY....
.....................THAT IS NOT COMPLICATED. iT IS UP TO THE WOMAN AND HER HUSBAND OR PATNER.
....................... NOT THE SUPREME COURT.
YES, MILLIONS OF WOMEN ARE OFFENDED BY THIS RULING AND THE CONSEQUENCES WILL BE SHOWN IN FIVE MONTHS.
YES, REPUBLICANS, INDEPENDENTS, DEMOCRATES AND NON AFFILIATEED WOMEN.
.................................This could be a onetime event, but it will happen this November 2022.................
...................Remember. this: This is a personal right that women have had for many years, and taking this right
to decide on whether or not to have a baby, is a mistake that the Republicans will never forget. These judges that made
this ruling, were appointed by Republicans, and if we get that word out, this November will be a pay back to the
Republican Party that will not be ever forgotten.

(8,540 posts)Roe v Wade is/was a woman's guaranteed forever physical/emotional safety net...rape, the life of the mother, a non-viable fetus, ectopic pregnancy.."God forbid, but just in case"... and now gone because 5 incompetent, lying skewed right judges have this thing about subjugating women..and as loathsome as they all are, Amy Comey Barrett is by far most insidiously abhorrent of them all..'relinquishing parents rights after birth" (adoption) ..solves the burden of an unwanted pregnancy ...oh my fucking god, can that woman be any more amorally callous?!!!

(18,554 posts)Sorry if I sound nitpicky, but "partner" implies a committed relationship, which is not always the case. A lot of sex takes place between people who are not in a committed relationship with each other, and sometimes pregnancies result. That's just a fact. A woman who gets pregnant from a one night stand (for example) isn't necessarily going to ask her fuck buddy for his opinion about what she should do, nor should she have to.
There are also women who are trying to get out of an abusive relationship and find themselves unexpectedly pregnant. I've read stories about women getting an abortion in those situations because it would be too flat out dangerous to have a child tying them to their abuser.
Then there are all those rape and incest situations.
These are just a few examples of cases where there is no "partner" or where the "partner" is someone who the woman would rather not involve in her decision. I think the way I would state it is this: "It is up to the woman and whoever SHE chooses to involve in the decsion."
I hope I'm making myself clear. I'm half asleep at the moment, so it's hard to be sure.

DeWine was running all over Ohio bragging that he would sign the abortion bill right after the Primary! Then bingo, a popular Lady Mayor brought Dayton to the present, remodeled the whole city, including the really bad west side. Helped people through a massive tornado, massacre.
DeWine promised a gun control bill after being booed off the stage. Instead he signed an open carry, did away with training. Police are not allowed to ask if you have a gun. Scandal after scandal. 5 gerrymandered districting maps turned down by the Court, led by a Republican. DeWine decided to wait on the Court decision before he signed the bill, dead silence since then.
Whaleys first ad said Mike DeWine entered politics in 1974. Ohio was first in the nation on wages, one paycheck could support a family. Today Ohio is near the bottom.

(601 posts)...they only SAY they want it banned as a form of virtue signalling. But if an unwanted pregnancy happened to them or a family member, even if they are virulently anti-choice, they still sneak off to get one.
I post this on DU every so often... https://joycearthur.com/abortion/the-only-moral-abortion-is-my-abortion/]
We have anti-choice women in for abortions all the time. Many of them are just naive and ignorant until they find themselves with an unwanted pregnancy. Many of them are not malicious. They just havent given it the proper amount of thought until it completely affects them. They can be judgmental about their friends, family, and other women. Then suddenly they become pregnant. Suddenly they see the truth. That it should only be their own choice. Unfortunately, many also think that somehow they are different than everyone else and they deserve to have an abortion, while no one else does. (Physician, Washington State)

(6,115 posts)And if you all don't think they will ban pregnant women from the workforce, think again.
This is ALL to dilute the power of women. They are scared to death of allowing women to play on an even playing field because their privilege is lost. They would have to actually compete with women who are smarter and more capable than they are. So their answer is pregnancy slavery. And then they will restrict what pregnant women can do, like working. They'll say it's to "protect the fetus" but it's ALL to subjugate women.
WE HAVE TO ELECT MORE DEMOCRATS TO THE HOUSE AND SENATE. Stop these motherfuckers before they make all women nothing more than forced breeding vessels.
