Russia warns of response to Finland NATO entry
Source: France 24
Russia on Thursday warned Thursday it would have to take "military-technical" steps in response to neighbouring Finland joining NATO, after leaders in Helsinki backed entering the US-led alliance.

(9,955 posts)... this kind of threat would only encourage me to join, if I were Finland. I'm sure they agree. I wonder what Putin's thinking process involves... this makes no sense. I can only think he already had a plan to invade more countries. I'm happy he's old, because his timeline will eventually exceed his mortality.

(111,257 posts)Finnish channels are my go to for doses of mayhem, with several different channels of people doing highly inappropriate and dangerous things. I posted one of a backyard thermobaric bomb, although they had to fudge a little to get it to work. It did work.
So I don't fancy Russia's chances of getting too far with pushing Finland around, even if they wait until winter so their remaining WWII tanks don't get stuck in the swamps. They'll know that all they need if they use the roads is a bulls eye instead of a Z or V.
The only thing I can think of that's wackier than declaring war on Finland is declaring it on Turkey. That's coming, too. Putin is nuts.

(5,395 posts)is a response to what Putin has done, and hints at what he might do.
Finland and others are looking for a hard border.
I guess Putin's desire to rebuild the old USSR isn't shared by some of his neighbors.
If/when Putin loses the plot completely, hopefully there will be clearer heads stopping him from his Final Solution idea of 'If I can't have my USSR I'm just going to blow everything up.'
Any failsafes in the Russian nuclear weapons pile?
(If it is anything like his Army, it's going to be a bit outdated and unreliable.)
If Putin was in full control of his mental faculties and could shake off his self generated propaganda, he would realize he has woken the Big Friendly Giant, NATO, by his actions in Ukraine and his dream of recreating the past 'glory' of the USSR will never happen.

(6,529 posts)the man himself takes to the podium with this speech. Finland is right to join NATO at this point along with Sweden. It is clearly Russia's own fault for them taking this step. The whole world knows it.
What's he got for this "military-technical" response? A cyber attack? He already moved assets against Finland; what's he going to do, retarget some old, moldy nukes that he has lying around? Does he want to commit suicide?
So what if he wants to move troops in up there. He can't hold that line. This was a worthless threat. And, Finland isn't stupid. They already know how trustworthy Putin and Russia are. Better to be under the umbrella of NATO.
Moldova, you are next. What are you going to do about it?
I'm starting to envision a return of Crimea to Ukraine. Meanwhile, Kershon is having to fend off a stupid, worthless "make us part of Russia" claim. This whole thing is nothing but a land grab by Putin, but it isn't exactly working out the way he intended. His whole damned army and navy might surrender. You never know.
