On Monday morning, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) lashed out at the leadership of her own party for turning a blind eye to the overt racism being promoted by members of their own caucus.
Coming on the heels of the horrific mass shooting in Buffalo, New York where an 18-year-old man used a high-powered weapon to slaughter 10 people and wound three in a grocery store in a predominately Black neighborhood, Cheney appeared to call out House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for sitting idly by.
"The House GOP leadership has enabled white nationalism, white supremacy, and anti-semitism. History has taught us that what begins with words ends in far worse," she wrote before adding, " @GOP leaders must renounce and reject these views and those who hold them."
Over the weekend, following the shooting, Rep Elise Stefanik (R-NY) was singled out for promoting the "great replacement theory" that was the central thesis of the shooter's manifesto in ads on Facebook..........................

Lots of blame NEEDS to be put on Stefanik. She is competing with the worst of them.

(6 posts)How do we make sure this white nationalist GOP can't vote or get on TV, Democracy is gonna die if we don't figure this out

(17,362 posts)but in America we don't jail people merely for their political beliefs.
I've never seen white supremacy on the ballot, it always sneaks in with dog whistles and crypto nazis. Racial hatred isn't political and same with calling Democrats groomers, white supremacy sneaking in is eroding democracy, it only works if people aren't played fiddle by an anti-immigrant TV show host talking great replacement. They vote fascism or they don't vote, then they shouldn't

coming in the midterms because of Jan 6th and R's attitude "nothing to see here"

(4,759 posts)I feel the exact same way and with her white nationalism comments she has now likely lost the last few remaining Republican votes she had in Wyoming.

(523 posts)Integrity, a Chaney? I disagree -- the fact that someone treats dogs well does not make them a good person. And agreeing that the moon is not made of of cheese or that there are many bigots in the GOP is not extraordinary.

Oh, and if you are totally oblivious to any show of ethical behavior among your political opponents, however rare, then I hold little expectation that you recognize it in your friends.

(83 posts)I hate to say it, but the GOP needs many more people like her who, despite disagreements with Democrats regarding policy, are at least actually committed to the rule of law and defending the Constitution. Not trying to manipulate or game it just to gain or retain power at all costs, or to use, support, or condone violence for political ends, as the most of the GOP is doing. I lament the loss of The Lincoln Project, which, while still conservative, sought to inspire Republicans to give racism no purchase and look back to the triumphs of the party under Abraham Lincoln. This current GOP, however, has for a long time seemed more like a party hell bent on the restoration and expansion of Jefferson Davis' Confederacy.

(5,841 posts)I don't think there's anything comparable for independents. If the political infrastructure was there, I think we'd see a lot of them leaving the festering slime pit and switching to independent.
And I have a little less respect for those who talk the talk but don't walk the walk. Sure, they deserve kudos for speaking up, but words without action don't amount to a whole lot.

(10,252 posts)We can't go back to the Eisenhower GOP. Nixon set the stage with his southern strategy to support segregationists. Then Reagan opened the barn doors and let all the corporate pigs out.
The best thing for you is to just walk away from the GOP. Become an Indy.
