Former pharmaceutical exec Martin Shkreli released from prison

Source: Reuters

Martin Shkreli, the former pharmaceutical executive known for raising the price of a lifesaving drug more than 40-fold, has been released from prison, where he had been serving a seven-year term for fraud.

The early release of the 39-year-old Shkreli from a low security prison in Allenwood, Pennsylvania was confirmed on Wednesday by the prison and by Benjamin Brafman, who represented Shkreli at his 2017 criminal trial.

"Martin Shkreli has been released from Allenwood prison and transferred to a BOP halfway house after completing all programs that allowed for his prison sentence to be shortened," Brafman said in a statement, referring to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Shkreli is eligible to be released completely from federal custody on Sept. 14. His confinement is now overseen by a New York office that helps prisoners reenter society.

In January a judge banned Shkreli for life from the drug industry, and in February another judge barred him from ever serving as an officer or director of public companies.

He'll have to serve a long parole and I doubt his PO is going to be amused if he starts his old tricks any time soon.

At the halfway house, he'll most likely find himself working a typical post prison job at first, stocking shelves at a Wally's.

I don't think he looks the same way he did when he went in. He might have lost that backpfeifengesich.

If anyone deserves it its him. He should be banned from anything related to the stock market as well.

He can't get any kind of securities license, and can't work for anyone who is regulated. Pretty much closes that door for him.

I have a feeling that this guy will eventually be back inside. I doubt a few years at Club Fed scared him straight.
