Abbott 'livid,' says he was 'misled' on police response to shooting
Source: The Hill
Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said he was misled and is livid over inaccurate information he was given about the police response to the Texas elementary school shooting that killed 19 children and two teachers.
During a press conference on Friday hours after police acknowledged they should have engaged with an active shooter at a deadly school shooting, Abbott said he was given incorrect information about the initial response.
I was misled, Abbott said. I am livid about what happened.
Abbott earlier this week heaped praise on police for their response to the shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
On Friday, he reversed course...

It is the gun lobby's attempt to turn your attention from the fact that the real villain here is the gun. Just as the news media began focusing on the damage these guns do, we are encouraged to stop thinking about that and get mad at the stupid cops. (Yes, they were stupid and cowardly, but if the killer hadn't had military grade weaponry, this would not have played out this way.)

(10,167 posts)He didn't expect the national media would pursue this storyline as aggressively as they have. He assumed everyone would accept the always-popular heroic first responder myth.
Republicans and the NRA are heavily invested in the "good guy with a gun" argument. If that falls apart, they'll be forced to confront the reality that even heavily-armed cops couldn't prevent an 18-year-old from gunning down 19 children.

The post about Stop asking why the police response was a cluster@$ck. Is right on, the fish rots from the head down I believe is one sentence in it. What we saw on TV the other day and now video of parents yelling at the cops to go in is the continuation of a massive decline in Americas competency in disaster response since Katrina because the GOP keeps putting Heckuvajob Browny people in positions they should are horribly unqualified for and it is costing American lives. Their incompetence or criminality in responding to COVID cost America over 1 million people.
We have yet to see just how disastrous the judicial system is going to become with all the unqualified judges DT & McConnell installed.

(1,306 posts)There is too much anger and hatred in our society.
There are too many angry, antisocial people who see mass murder as a justifiable option.
Hatred is cultivated in our country, fomented for political gain, rather than rebuked.
The previous POTUS advocated for violence to overturn an election that he lost.
Last I heard, he was advocating civil war. Evidently, killing doesn't bother him.
There are too many guns, and they are too easily obtained.
There are too many guns designed to annihilate people quickly and in large numbers.
There are NOT ENOUGH police in the country to stop them. It is delusional to think otherwise.
The police are outnumbered and out-gunned. By the time they arrive on scene, the carnage is already over.
Innocent people will continue to be murdered because the police are not able to save us.
We are all vulnerable and at risk to be killed at random -- you, me, children, everyone.
America is the only country defending itself against terrorism by the hands of its own citizens.
Think about that....
Anger, hatred, division, antisocial regard for our fellow citizens, blood lust, and an overabundance of guns
all makes for a putrid recipe for death.
Mr. Abbott should be livid, but for other reasons. AND he should be scared, as well.
