Uvalde police, school district no longer cooperating with Texas probe of shooting
ABC News
Texas officials are probing law enforcement's response to last week's massacre.
The Uvalde Police Department and the Uvalde Independent School District police force are no longer cooperating with the Texas Department of Public Safety's investigation into the massacre at Robb Elementary School and the state's review of the law enforcement response, multiple law enforcement sources tell ABC News. A spokesman for Texas DPS, which is running the state's investigations, declined to comment.
The Uvalde police chief and a spokesperson for the Uvalde Independent School District did not immediately respond to requests for comment from ABC News.
According to sources, the decision to stop cooperating occurred soon after the director of DPS, Col. Steven McCraw, held a news conference Friday during which he said the delayed police entry into the classroom was "the wrong decision" and contrary to protocol.
Last Tuesday's attack, one of the worst school shootings in U.S. history, left 19 children and two adults dead.

What more did you want?
Go into the school? With some nutter firing away? Are you crazy? Could have been dangerous!

Does anyone remember the old cop shows where internal affairs used to try and rein in bad cops?

(35,732 posts)they raise the taxes. The taxes can go up an incredible amount.
Here's how I know this. On a recent case, I worked with a renowned attorney who got a huge judgment in a case where the police screwed up atrociously. It took decades for this case to be resolved. There were 8 defendants and some of them served 20 years. You can imagine what the jury wanted to see after the full extent of the police misconduct was. In addition, there was judicial misconduct.
They fought like hell to get out of paying but in the end, they had to pay and raising taxes was one of he ways they did it.

(28,504 posts)Yes, the cops failed, but the fallout from their failure, as well as the devastation to the small community. Honestly, trauma of any given violent incident is overwhelming, and then the public/media scrutiny is another whole level of trauma. I'm not excusing these groups not cooperating, managing everything when the shit hits the fan is what the leadership is paid the big bucks. But I am saying that when dealing with multiple layers of trauma it's often easier to just deal with what's immediate in your physical sphere because you don't have the bandwidth to deal with anything else.
On edit: I need more coffee before I start posting. I thought the OP said the local school board wasn't cooperating, but now I see it's the local school police. So, yeah, trauma... and also: fuck the police.
