Trump ally Rep. Elise Stefanik tries to get ahead of the January 6 select committee public hearings, and accuses the panel of putting on a show with its planned primetime airing

House Republican Conference Chair and Donald Trump ally Elise Stefanik this weekend tried to get ahead of the January 6 select committee's public hearings by portraying the prime-time slotting of Thursday's high-profile presentation as proof that Democratic leaders are more interested in putting on a show than uncovering the truth.
House Republicans have attacked the legitimacy of the panel, which includes GOP Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, since its creation last year. Stefanik, who the New York Post reports is scheduled to join the twice-impeached former president Monday night for a fundraiser at his golf club in Briarcliff Manor, New York, added the timing of Thursday night's hearing to the GOP's laundry list of complaints about the politically charged investigation during an interview with right-leaning Breitbart News.
"Most committees in Congress start in the morning. That's the business hours," Stefanik said on June 4. But airing this committee's year-long investigation into the deadly siege at the US Capitol just in time for highlights to make the nightly news, Stefanik said, shows that "all they care about is trying to take back the narrative to try and target patriotic Trump supporters across the country."
The January 6 committee is tentatively expected to hold six public hearings this month, starting with the agenda-setting meeting at 8 p.m. on June 9. Recent media reports have outlined Trump's swirling counterprogramming plans, a team effort that's projected to include Stefanik, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, House Freedom Caucus members, MAGA-friendly media outlets, and Trump's fledgling social media channel.
Some House Freedom Caucus members are heading to Trump's summer home in Bedminster, New Jersey Tuesday to talk strategy, according to Politico. The group includes Reps. Andy Biggs of Arizona, Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, and Matt Rosendale of Montana.

(27,640 posts)Newtown, Conn.-based NSSF was plaintiff in recently dismissed lawsuit seeking to block New York law that increases liability for gun manufacturers
As the debate over gun control heats up following back-to-back mass shootings, the industry has a spokesman with unparalleled access to U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, the No. 3 Republican in the House: her husband.
Matthew Manda works as the manager of public affairs for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, based in Newtown, Conn. The trade group whose stated mission is "to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports" was among the plaintiffs in a federal lawsuit seeking to block a New York law that increases potential liability for gun manufacturers. The suit was dismissed by a judge in Albany earlier this week, though an appeal is likely.
Manda frequently writes for the NSSF website and other outlets about the group's events and policy stances. "Law-abiding Americans choose over and over again to take their personal safety into their own hands and purchase a firearm," he wrote in April in a piece about a "Congressional Fly-In" hosted by the group. "Congress needs to ensure the industry is free from woke corporate discrimination.

(12,904 posts)The Albany Union Times reported last Friday that Stefaniks husband, Matthew Manda, works for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, an organization that aggressively lobbies for pro-gun policies and supports pro-gun politicians.
I saw this on TYT.com, and they linked to the Albany newspaper.

"Congress needs to ensure the industry is free from woke corporate discrimination.
The Washington, D.C., event featured "dozens of firearm, ammunition and accessories industry leaders who spoke face-to-face with elected officials, Manda wrote. Among them was Stefanik, who "added her enthusiasm to elect more Republican women to Congress is heading in the right direction as several pro-Second Amendment women will likely join the Republican conference at the start of next year." Manda's article did not mention she is his wife.
Manda did not respond to a Times Union request for comment. An NSSF spokesman refused to say when Manda began working for the group, calling it "personal information."
When the Times Union called Alex deGrasse, a Stefanik adviser and frequent campaign spokesman, to ask if Manda's work influences Stefaniks stance on gun rights, deGrasse called the reporter a very sick person. He then sent an email calling the Times Union sexist.
The Times Union is stooping to another new low and attacking her husband, deGrasse wrote. You should ask both current Democrat challenger candidates what their positions are on Democrats' gun control proposals.
He went on to say Stefanik supports the hiring of more school resource officers and noted she co-sponsored a bill that would have expanded background checks. The main goal of that bill, proposed in 2017, was to allow "concealed carry" reciprocity across state lines.
Stefanik was a strong ally of the gun industry long before her husband went to work for the NSSF. She has a A+ rating with the National Rifle Association, which launched its annual meeting in Houston on Friday.
Manda is a graduate of the University of Kansas who previously worked as the communications director for Republican U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder and as the political director for U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, both Kansas Republicans.

(11,523 posts)It's all about informing the American public of crimes committed by 45* and his cronies. They attempted an armed coup against the US government, why the hell shouldn't we be informed of all the details that went into the planning and coverup?
And I suppose the bullshit surrounding Whitewater, Blowjobgate, Benghazi, Hillary's emails, Hunter's laptop, etc. etc. etc. wasn't a show. There's one big difference between all of those and the January 6th investigation - actual crimes were committed in the attempted coup.

(129,535 posts)Perry IS a subject of the J6 Committee investigation and has so far blown off the subpoena he got from them. He was deep in the insurrection planning among the sitting Congress members, including working with Mastriano (who was the PA Capo and a state Sen.) to submit the fake electors. Mastriano "suddenly" submitted *some* documents and offered to "voluntarily" schedule an interview with the J6 Committee last week, but Perry appears to want to go the route of Navarro and Bannon (at least so far), and roll the dice.
I hope that since Perry knows that Navarro was frog-marched out of the airport last week for blowing off the subpoena, he might reconsider at some point, but that "Bedminster meeting" may be pointing to more "cover-up" from afar.
Justice matters.
