Colorado GOP rejects candidates who back Trump election lie

DENVER (AP) Republicans in Colorado rejected two prominent candidates whose political profiles were centered on election falsehoods in a fresh reminder that fealty to former President Donald Trumps lies about mass voter fraud is no guarantee of success with conservative voters.
Tina Peters, the Mesa County clerk who became nationally known after being indicted for her role in a break-in of her own county election system, lost her bid for the GOP nomination for Colorado secretary of state. Instead, Republicans selected Pam Anderson, a critic of Trumps election lies and a former clerk in suburban Denver who is well-regarded among election professionals. She is now positioned to challenge Democratic Secretary of State Jena Griswold.
I will continue my fight for restoring the confidence of Colorado voters against lies and the politicians or interest groups that seek to weaponize elections administration for political advantage, Anderson said after her victory.
One of Peters top Colorado allies, state Rep. Ron Hanks, lost his bid for the partys Senate nomination to Joe ODea, a businessman who has repeatedly acknowledged that President Joe Biden legitimately won the 2020 election. That was a sharp contrast with Hanks, who attended the Jan. 6 rally in Washington, doesnt believe Biden is a legitimate president and says he discovered a new, animating purpose fighting election fraud after 2020.

Boebert just won in a landslide. Careful with that broad brush your painting with there. Colorado needs a sugar daddy GQP king maker like Art Pope in North Carolina to destroy the stupidest of its elected reps, like Art did Cawthorn. Have ya heard a word from that motor mouth? Damn! Boebert??? Really???? Thats how smart you want people in control???? Maybe the combo of Meth AND weed and alcohol is not such a good thing. Unlimited that, with unlimited guns?????????? And forced breeding of the gene pool????

(507 posts)and her district takes up nearly half of Colorado only because it covers mostly parts of Colorado where very few people live. All Congressional districts have to have roughly the same population.

(4,830 posts)At least on MSNBC. I wonder how many GOP voters know of this and whether it affected their choice at the ballot box.

(101,311 posts)Peters finished nearly 15 points behind local election official Pam Anderson. She also finished behind fellow 2020 election denier Mike ODonnell.
