Abortion, women's rights grow as priorities: AP-NORC poll

Source: AP

By HANNAH FINGERHUT

WASHINGTON (AP) — A new poll finds a growing percentage of Americans calling out abortion or women’s rights as priorities for the government in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, especially among Democrats and those who support abortion access.

With midterm elections looming, President Joe Biden and Democrats will seek to capitalize on that shift.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in remarks immediately after the decision that “reproductive freedom is on the ballot in November.” But with pervasive pessimism and a myriad of crises facing the nation, it’s not clear whether the ruling will break through to motivate those voters — or just disappoint them.

“It does feel like a major setback,” said 26-year-old Lauren Nelson of San Diego, who has been worrying about the environment her young niece will grow up in. She doesn’t think the midterms will change the course that states are on. “You can’t help but feel kind of helpless, as though there’s not much that can be done.”

Bill Barr is a member, and we saw his total lack of ethics. Gorsuch seems to have none as he did not recuse himself from a case involving the federal agency that fired his mother. And we know Thomas has no ethics. I came across this article from the UK about Leonard Leo, the mastermind behind many appointments to all the federal courts—and not just any Catholics but the Catholics groomed to be the most extremist. The article writer gives Leo more credit for the Court picks than McConnell, in effect saying that he controls McConnell and was also the mastermind behind the ruse of denying Garland a Senate hearing. Interesting read.

Goresuch and Alito, definitely. And I'm guessing that Amy Boney Carrot is - or at least her husband is. She's probably in the "women's auxiliary."

Alito is definately a rw Catholic. Barrett belongs to a cultish, fundamentalist off-shoot of Catholicism. Kavanaugh is Catholic, but I doubt he's seriously observant. Gorsuch and Kavanaugh are both primarily political hacks.

Set up abortion clinics on Indian reservations. Whereas, sovereign nations, Supreme Court decisions like overturning Roe v. Wade DO NOT APPLY---

I’m sure they would use an abortion clinic to further destroy their sovereignty

If you're among the indigenous population, I guess I'd ask if you're offering. If you're not among them, then the proposition demonstrates a fairly large degree of non-indigenous privilege.

Abortion havens on tribal lands are unlikely

Rachael Lorenzo started hearing the questions several weeks ago from strangers on Twitter and reporters seeking interviews: Since Native American tribes are sovereign nations, with their own laws, could they offer abortion services on Native land within states that may soon outlaw abortion?

And would they?
...
Lorenzo and other Indigenous abortion rights advocates say the questions have mostly come from non-Native people.

The advocates said they hadn’t heard of any tribe or Indigenous organization advocating for opening clinics on tribal land to offer abortion services. Planned Parenthood, the nation’s leading provider of abortions, told KHN that it is not exploring this option and that such decisions should be left to Indigenous people.

Any such plan would be fraught with legal, financial and political hurdles, the advocates said. And they wondered why many people now asking about opening clinics on reservations didn’t seem interested in health care access there before abortion rights were threatened nationwide.

“All of a sudden, this issue that’s going to impact white women too — or impact white women more broadly — now we're being seen as the potential savior,” Lorenzo said. “It should not be on tribal nations to go above and beyond when so many tribal nations already have very limited resources.”

of the Red states which have imposed these restrictions benefit from federal installations located in the state. Abortion services could be provided on military, research and even public federal lands! If the state imposes other restrictions the federal installation which provide revenue in the form of employment to locals and to the local economy could be shut down!
Time to play nice is over!

Happy about the ruling.

I thought this guy must had have an evil Mother and fu£Ked up childhood to be so anti women. Every right winger/ conservative/ MAGA person I know has told me they had an awful childhood. I think that’s the segment of our population who worship the cult leader a majority of them were unloved and neglected children just like their cult leader. Mama and Daddy didn’t love that baby TFG.

...of young women, or younger girls, dying due to forced birth because their state has no exception for anything, or severely malformed babies that probably would have been aborted if abortion were legal, or young girls raped by their fathers or a relative giving birth to deformed or retarded babies because they could not get an abortion.

I think those percentages will continue to rise.

My experiences are just MINE of course, but I know a lot of trump voters. Some are idiots but most are the types that just think Dems are "Too Far" left. I now know of two who messaged me and said "I'm not voting for them" in Nov. Both are pretty religious people too. They never had a problem with time restrictions, but a total ban was just too much.
And if THESE two will switch over this, there must be more.
If GA keeps Warnock it'll be a sign I think

are impeached, and the Left seats enough real judges to make normal, sane decisions on laws, how will they undo the damge the current unelcted, unaccountable fascists have done? Can any of these horrible rulings be rescinded? if they are rescinded, can they be cut in stone?

Because, why in the name of hell do women and minorities and sane people have to be subject to the whims of ignorant unelected fascists who, every time they get power, abuse it and us along with it!

Liberal interpretations of the U.S. Consititution have improved the living standards of countless people. r.w. made-up-shit decisions not only ruin lives, they will ruin the standing of the U.S. in the world. We are not only losing rights that were guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, we are becoming a shithole coountry every minute the fascists are allowed to stay in power.

I was looking at FiveThirtyEight, yesterday, and the chances of Dems keeping the House are not looking good. The prevailing consensus is that voters will vote R due to gas prices, inflation, because they don't like Biden, etc. and that abortion will not be enough to motivate people to vote D.

I think social media has helped shine a light on how abortion & contraception are men's issues, too. I can't believe the repubs are so stupid as to go after contraception, too. I hope this backfires big time for them this November.
