Kansas to recount abortion vote by hand, despite big margin

Source: AP

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas’ elections director says the state will go along with a request for a hand recount of votes from every county after last week’s decisive statewide vote affirming abortion rights, even though there was a 165,000-vote difference and a recount won’t change the result.

Melissa Leavitt, of Colby in far western Kansas, requested the recount and declined to comment to reporters Friday evening, citing work obligations. But she said on an online site raising funds for a recount that she had “seen data” about the election. Her post was not more specific, and there is no evidence of significant problems with the election.

Baseless election conspiracies have circulated widely in the U.S., particularly among supporters of former President Donald Trump, who has repeated false claims that he lost the 2020 election through fraud.

Kansas law requires Leavitt to post a bond to cover the entire cost of the recount. Bryan Caskey, state elections director for the Kansas secretary of state’s office, said it would be the first recount of the votes on a statewide ballot question in at least 30 years.

What the HELL is wrong with these people?? They are deadset against everything that makes America great. They are trying to tear down every great American institution. Our elections are and have been pretty damn good over the years, and now we are facing the prospects of Republicans who won't accept any election where their candidate or issue loses.

We have to beat them so badly this November that they crawl back under their rocks.

.........Caskey said the work won’t begin without a guarantee that Leavitt can cover the cost.

“Normally, they reinforce the Election Day results,” Caskey said about recounts. “We stand by the results and will do the recount.”

Also seeking a recount is state Sen. Caryn Tyson, who is trailing state Rep. Steven Johnson in the Republican primary for state treasurer by about 400 votes out of nearly 434,000 cast. She is asking for a hand recount in about half the state’s 105 counties.

to lots of GQPeers.

Also, I expect a river of money for the cost to flow in from out-of-state religious wackos and the oligarchy that uses them to disrupt democracy. Just raising doubts about the election process in the minds of some voters will be worth it for them.

Was front and center in the attempt to do away with abortion in the state. They teamed with the Republican Crime Family in an effort to control women’s bodies. Catholics spent millions to codify a religious belief into public law and did so in a tax exempt status. They (the crime families) thought it appropriate that the amendment should be placed on a primary ballot for their advantage. The voters voted, the losers got sore. For a religious organization they did a helluva lot of lying in an organized fashion. The Catholic Crime family in Kansas has zero respect for the separation of church and state. The tax exempt status should be part of the public discussion. I could go on but I won’t. I am a recovering Catholic who has no use for organized religion.

don't KNOW what we want or what is good for us.

They got someone to drop $200,000 for this. They won't be able to change it and if they even try they are going to have a fight on their hands. It confuses me. This vote was so one sided that there had to be quite a lot of men and Republicans voting for this. Even with their very cute gerrymandering they lost in a pretty big way.

I think this is likely the new normal for every election that a Democrat wins. Aren't we still recounting tfg's last election.

It is boring, boring behavior.

It looks like she is trying to publicly fund the recount. There is only about 1% of the goal raised. It seems to me that to be taken seriously a recount challenge would need to raise a far larger percentage.

I am an advocate for election integrity and feel that the State of Kansas should have a full hand recount State-wide for the VALUE THEM BOTH abortion ammendment.

I have seen data in the week following our election in Kansas that there were irregularities the night of August 2. The New York Times even reported using Edison data that 42 times in Kansas during our election, voting numbers declined.

No candidate or issue should ever lose votes. They should only gain in votes.

I’ve been studying election integrity and fraud in our state since 2020.

Without trust in our elections...we do not have a Republic.

We do not have liberty.

It’s for this reason that I’m asking concerned citizens to step up and help a group of us who are fighting to get a recount of the Value Them Both Amendment.

The deadline is tomorrow by 5:00pm to file the recount request with the secretary of states office. We will receive the precise bond estimate amount for all counties in the state tomorrow morning. The bond payment/security will have to be given to the SOS office most likely next business day (monday) for all 105 counties.

Kansas simply does not do enough to put the minds of voters at rest with their % based random audit system.

Vote flipping discovered in Cherokee County found this week called my spirit to seek truth where it has been dismantled in our election process.

The final estimate will be updated on here as soon as i receive it....so that I do not collect more funds than required to pay the bond. I am not looking to profit from this in any fashion.

I have never done an audit like this but I believe that God has put us all here “for such a time as this” to stand up and fight for our nation.

We must do what we can before it’s too late.

I apologize for the short timeframe, I was told only today by the Secretary of States office that I had standing to request this audit of a hand recount.

Thank you for your consideration in donating.

Considering I don't live in KS and have never been a registered (R).

Of course, they wanted a credit card number to which to charge a 'monthly gift', errr, tithe... Um, I'm having a little trouble here with what to call this mail fraud.
