Liz Cheney considers run for president after Republican primary defeat

Source: The Guardian

Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney has announced she is considering her own run for the White House in an all-out effort to prevent Donald Trump from winning another term as US president.

Cheney decisively lost her Republican primary race on Tuesday night and will lose her seat in the US Congress.

The Trump-backed challenger Harriet Hageman beat Cheney by almost 40 points as Wyoming voters took revenge for her voting to impeach Trump and for focusing on her role on the January 6 House select committee.

Congresswoman Liz Cheney concedes in Wyoming's Republican primary last night.

Cheney, vice-chair of the House January 6 committee, has vowed to ‘do whatever it takes to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office’.

So she is a good candidate why? She is a very conservative and voted with Trump almost 100% of time. Democrats are always thinking of other's and what the majority needs. Cheney would love to cut entitlements and cut taxes...the only GOP strategy for the last 50 years. Eisenhower was last Republican who even had a ounce of humanity in his policy decisions. The last thing this nation needs is a female Cheney leading the way.

I don't think she seriously believes she has a real chance against Joe Biden or whatever tin-pot goose-steeper the Repugs nominate.

But she might be an excellent spoiler - and thus possibly alter the course of U.S. history, for the better.

That would be an incredible legacy, if she can pull that off.

Beto didn’t lose his House seat in a primary and there was no reason to laugh - but yes, it was clear from the start of his national ambitions that they were at best premature (if not a joke).

Hers are just a joke. There are no doubt some republicans who will refuse to vote for Trump - but they’ll have plenty of more legitimate options in the “not trump” category.

As a third-party candidate she would take a little from Trump, but she might take even more from the “refuse to vote for Trump” middle that only showed up for Biden because he was the alternative

I'm sick of the orange fuck stealing all the oxygen.

She would steal Dem votes from people who only know her for her work on the J6 committee and who have no idea how disgusting her platform is. She might peel off some R votes. But she really doesn't have a chance because corporations are not going to pour money into her campaign.

That said, let her act like a contender. Maybe wake some people up. Maybe instill some fear into the orange motherfucker. It's so early right now that this is pretty much meaningless, unless it scares the cult. And if it does, I am all for it.

...any sympathy, no matter how small the amount, here at DU. Then again, after seeing predatory capitalist extraordinaire Michael Bloomberg suddenly put a (D) next to his name and gain a cult following here, despite his decades of viciously denigrating Democrats and liberals, and ruling over NYC for 12 years like it was his very own personal Fascist fiefdom, I suppose anything is possible.

Lest people forget, Liz Cheney voted WITH Scump 93% of the time. When it suited her, she was a Scump fangirl and acolyte. She's not worthy of any sympathy.

Lest people forget, her father is one of the most loathsome creatures to have ever oozed through the halls of power in this nation. A hopelessly corrupt, inherently dishonest gargoyle who made countless millions in personal profit from our unnecessary and illegal invasion of Iraq in 2003.

The Cheney crime family is curse upon this nation. Who cares if daughter Lizzie has had a falling out with her former orange crush?
