Herschel Walker: 'Don't We Have Enough Trees Around Here?'
Source: huff post
You know that some of this money is going into trees? the Republican Senate candidate said at an event Sunday in response to the new climate law.

Georgia Republican Herschel Walker said the Biden administrations sweeping new climate law represents unnecessary spending because it sets aside money to plant and protect trees.
They try to fool you and make you think they are helping you out theyre not. You know that some of this money is going into trees? We got enough trees dont we have enough trees around here? Walker said Sunday in Georgia, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Essentially, no the planet does not have enough trees to neutralize the impact of burning fossil fuels.
While a 2015 study found the earth has over 3 trillion trees, the number of trees here now is far less than at the beginning of human civilization and not nearly enough to offset the devastating effects of climate change, scientists say.
The Inflation Reduction Act, passed by Congress without a single Republican vote, allocates $1.5 billion over a decade to the Forest Services Urban and Community Forestry Program, which funds tree-planting in cities like Atlanta that struggle with poor air quality. Especially in lower-income areas, scientists agree that trees are beneficial, helping to reduce air pollution and temperatures.

Still, there has been at least one study since that found no association with player position and risk, so...
That said, Herschel had his exceptional speed on his side--throughout his career so statistically, at least, he would NOT be expected to have been at high/highest risk as a linebacker.

Sure, you could argue there's enough trees in Georgia. But most places aren't Georgia.
It's like this discussion of the water crisis I had with this one guy who wouldn't accept that there's a water crisis because he can see that there seems to be plenty of water in the river that borders his property.
I couldn't even get him to acknowledge that if he personally took as much water as he possibly could out of that one river that it might affect other people who used that one river, much less get him to think about any larger issues.
As long as he could personally see water, there was no problem at all as far as he was concerned.

He was deadly serious. As long snow as still falls, his argument went, how can the earth be getting warmer?

(16,965 posts)to be concerned about the 'welfare' of said candidate - even more alarming is that there is more than ONE PERSON (assuming that he would know to vote for himself) that would vote for him to serve in ANY position in ANY firm, let alone a government position!
dameatball
(7,412 posts)could have written that better. Alarming that he could be considered for a senate seat.

(5,565 posts)Once the human race runs out of places to live, fresh water, food to eat, and clean air to breathe, and dies out, the trees will have a conference and decide it's their turn to take over the planet.
Like how it was, before those pesky humans came and messed up the planet.
Walker just wants to speed up that process.
Probably thinks he is a tree himself.
Or something like that.

(399 posts)I rarely call people dumb but he is, I don't know that's just lack of education or because of TBI but he is just dumb.
He's surrounded by people who are using him and telling him he's brilliant and then when he's out of earshot they laugh at him and congratulate themselves on how smart they are in finding someone that will just do what they want.
He needs to lose and lose badly but I feel sorry for him.

Walker's intelligence is on par with a stump, so maybe it's a touchy subject for him.

Methinks Herschel might not have enough gray matter to walk and chew gum at the same time. Either that, or some Georgia Republican did something really, REALLY evil to him a long time ago, and his revenge is embarrassing the hell out of them with this farce of a candidacy. However, if that is the case, the joke is still partially on him, because 90% of Georgia Republicans take him seriously. There isn't much that is more embarrassing than THAT.
