2 female Army officers admit sending nude photos general facing sex crime charges
Source: WaPo
FORT BRAGG, N.C. Two female Army officers testified Wednesday they provided nude photos to a general facing sex crime charges.
A married captain testified that Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Sinclair repeatedly asked her to send him nude photos of herself, which she said made her uncomfortable. Eventually, she said she placated the married general by sending him downloaded pornographic photos of other women cropped so that their faces werent visible.
The testimony came during the third day of a hearing at Fort Bragg to determine whether Sinclair will go on trial for multiple criminal charges including forcible sodomy, wrongful sexual conduct and adultery, which is a crime under the military justice system. The allegations against Sinclair involve relationships with five women other than his wife. Sinclair served as a deputy commander of the 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan until he was relieved of his duties in May amid a criminal investigation and sent back to North Carolina.
On Tuesday, a second female captain testified that Sinclair, her direct superior, twice forced her to perform oral sex and threatened to kill her and her family if she told anyone. The woman had a three-year relationship with the married general at Army bases in the United States, Germany, Iraq and Afghanistan.

(26,449 posts)I doubt the second captain there, who was performing sex acts under threat of harm to her and her family, would agree she had a relationship with the general.

(34,845 posts)Maybe you'll be asked to describe what makes a rapist look the way he or she does.
Is it the wrinkles under the eyes? The balding look? The egg-shaped head?

(28,581 posts)Think of this way. You need to have each other's backs out in the field. If you have people having affairs all over the base it can cause a real problem within units.
Of course it still happens, but it is discouraged.

(16,191 posts)Deployed men and women often leave spouses on base back home. It's considered unacceptable for other soldiers to be striking up romantic relationships with the spouses of deployed troops, as that leads to fighting within the ranks (people have been killed over it.) There's also an unequal power problem, where people of higher rank may use that rank to leverage sex from people of lower rank or their spouses. What do you do when you discover that your CO, who gets to make decisions that might kill you in battle, is having a consensual affair with your wife?
That's why virtually all adultery charges are levied in instances of sex where both people, or their spouses, are actually in the military. I once knew a woman who was furious after discovering that her Army husband had been having an affair for years. She wanted him prosecuted, but his girlfriend was a single civilian woman so the Army declined to intervene. Because the other person in the affair wasn't connected to the military, they didn't see it as their problem. Had she been another soldier, or the spouse of a soldier, it would have been a different story.

(55,445 posts)I imagine it's slightly harder to pull off against a general as opposed to some ROTC 2nd Lt.

People like that need to remember that some behavior is unacceptable.
I think a fragging would get the point across just fine.
