President Obama nearly won the solidly Republican Cuban-American vote in Florida and rolled up huge margins with every other Hispanic group in the state, according to an exit poll performed by a firm that also worked for his campaign.
Obama actually won Cuban-Americans who voted on Election Day itself, taking 53 percent of their vote compared to 47 percent for Republican Mitt Romney, who built up a lead among those who cast absentee and early in-person ballots, according to the survey of 4,866 voters conducted by Bendixen & Amandi International.
Romney narrowly carried Cuban-Americans, 52-48 percent, which is a decrease for Republicans when compared to 2008.
Obama is picking the Republican lock in Florida, Fernand Amandi said, noting that Hispanics are Floridas fastest-growing segment of the electorate.

(47,992 posts)a fractured community, because of what happened to them and to Cuba and whatever part the US played in all of that. The younger ones probably do love the US now and more of their parents and grandparents maybe have come to terms with what happened.
My good wishes to the land of their ancestors. I hope we are on better terms now and I also hope that their youngsters feel like Cuban Americans.

(4,935 posts)They (Cuban Americans), the older ones blame JFK and my extension the Democratic party for the Bay of Pigs fiasco. In point of fact he inherited this plan from the Eisenhower administration. The invasion was in April of 1961. JFK took office in January 1961. How could he have planned all that in 3 months? They should really be blaming the GOP for that.

(48,217 posts)and they like to visit the land of their ancestors. (The NY Times had an article about how some Cuban-Americans even send their kids to Cuba to stay with relatives for extended periods.) They resented Bush's ruling that limited Cuban-Americans to only one visit every three years, even in the event of a death in the family or other emergency, and Obama loosened up the travel restrictions.
