McAuliffe says he's running for governor with Warner's 'green light'

Source: Politico

The Virginian-Pilot scoops that former Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe has begun to launch his 2013 campaign for governor:

-snipping paragraphs about McAulifee contacting VA Dems including Hampton Mayor Molly Ward-

A McAuliffe supporter, Ward said he contacted her to confirm his plans to run and advised her U.S. Sen. Mark Warner had "given him the green light" to proceed.

McAuliffe's outreach comes two days after Warner told reporters he would decide by Thanksgiving whether he's seek another term as Virginia governor.

If Warner has indeed given his blessing, then McAuliffe may have a clear shot at the Democratic nomination. On the Republican side, I reported earlier today on early skirmishes between Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli.

He was just awful and ran a horrible campaign for Hillary Clinton.

Howard Dean deserves a lot of credit for helping to turn that around. Combined with President Obama they helped the democrats come back.

Yeah, that'll work.

This is sad.

He was a slick talker and fund raiser for Bill and then Hillary a bit, but not his time, if it ever was for actual governing.

I will never forgive him for the feckless campaign of 2002 in which the Bushies' party gained seats in both Houses.

Although to be fair, the "message" from the state democratic party 3 years ago was definitely sent: Either make sure our boy wins the primary or else we'll take our ball and go home...

Is who can beat that Tea Party slimeball Cuccinelli. I doubt if McAuliffe's the man to do it, but I'm sure Mark Warner would kick Cuccinelli's butt. I also really like Brian Moran, who is chair of the Virginia Democratic Party, for either governor or senator (if Warner decides to run for Governor again).

Another disgusted Virginian here.

Slink off back under your rock, McAuliffe. No one wants you! And we REALLY don't want to have to say "Governor Cuccinelli/Bolling".

For once in your ego-inflated miserable life, do the right thing and DO NOT RUN!

Of winning. I hope Democrats can field some stronger candidates in the primary.
