Report: Jackson Jr. In Plea Deal Talks With Feds

Source: TPM

The newly re-elected Rep. Jesse Jackson (D-IL) is in plea deal discussions with federal investigators, who are probing his alleged misuse of campaign funds, The Chicago Sun-Times reported late Wednesday. “No one has pled guilty, but plea discussions are ongoing,” an anonymous source told columnist Michael Sneed.

In October, the Sun-Times reported on the existence of the federal probe, being run out of the FBI’s Washington D.C. field office. According to the paper, Jackson was being investigated for allegedly using campaign funds to decorate his home.

The probe apparently began before June 10, when Jackson collapsed in his Washington D.C. home. The lawmaker has been on medical leave since, and spent the summer being treated for bipolar disorder in Minnesota and Arizona.

Jackson was recently spotted in Washington D.C. by a reporter for The Daily, but according to the Sun-Times he is now back receiving treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

No Reb will ever win that district. I was attacked here for suggesting Jackson had FBI itists when he went missing earlier this year. I knew I was right.

i knew that the "treatment" that he was receiving was way, way above and beyond the normal hospitalization, even for serious depression or bipolar.
which is not to say that i don't believe his has mental health problems, i do. and people voted for him on the theory that people get sick, that doesn't mean they should lose their jobs. besides, if he goes down, another dem will rise. it'll be ok.
i am pissed off that he is going to cost us a special election when he could have stepped down in time to give the voters a real candidate. very selfish.

He was challenged in the Democratic primary by Debbie Halvorson, who is the former US Representative in the 11th district. Which, by the way, parts of the 11th district will become part of the 2nd District come January 2013.

The district is huge, and is heavily Democratic, however, Debbie could not compete for voters in the new parts of the district who did not know her, but knew Jesse very well.

Jesse won the primary by a landslide. And it extremely unfortunate for the voters that he put us in this position in the general election.

It sounds lame, I know, but I think many people in the district were willing to take a chance on Jesse, and try to hold on to a Democratic seat in the House.
