Biden hopes ending cancer can be a 'national purpose' for US

Source: AP

By ZEKE MILLER and CARLA K. JOHNSON

BOSTON (AP) — President Joe Biden on Monday urged Americans to come together for a new “national purpose” — his administration’s effort to end cancer “as we know it.”

At the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, Biden channeled JFK’s famed moonshot speech 60 years ago, likening the space race to his own effort and hoping it, too, would galvanize Americans.

“He established a national purpose that could rally the American people and a common cause,” Biden said of Kennedy’s space effort, adding that “we can usher in the same unwillingness to postpone.”

Biden hopes to move the U.S. closer to the goal he set in February of cutting U.S. cancer fatalities by 50% over the next 25 years and to dramatically improve the lives of caregivers and those suffering from cancer. Experts say the objective is attainable — but with adequate investments.

4. He'd have to wage war against the entire pharmaceutical industry and their enablers then.

Y'know, the greedy fuckers that would rather treat a disease than cure it, because treating a disease is more profitable.

Hell, diabetes might have been cured already on account of stem cells if the religious hypocritical right hadn't pushed their lying baby-killing crap at it, (umbilical cords are a source of stem cells) hindering and highly restricting what can be done there. Profits over people!

But refusing to put any real effort into creating one for a lot of diseases, etc.

There are tons of stories out there of the industry taking a pill/etc. off the market shortly before the patent expires and is able to be generically produced, in favour of pushing a new one that is no better (or worse in some cases) than the previous drug.

It's more profitable to treat symptoms than it is to cure.

Cancer is by and large genetic in nature, often exacerbated by environmental factors or simply what we put into our bodies (food). The amount of chemicals that are ubiquitous in our world (many chemicals that have BEEN BANNED since the 196os) are indeed playing a large role in the rise of various cancers.

Some people are more predisposed to cancer than others, and this predisposition makes these causal factors far more dangerous.

I am guessing Biden would like to do research on the reaction to cancer (somehow turn back on the genetic stop signs that are "turned off" allowing cancer to proliferate). There could be some promise there. I've heard some various wild animals have some sort of adaptation that prevents them from getting cancer. Which is interesting. So there is another thing, lets quit killing off the planet, one of these species we wipe out could provide insights into our own salvation.
